Transitioning Nest Yale lock from Nest Secure to Nest Connect

I received the following reply to my original question from Lance:

I’d be happy to help you with the Nest x Yale Lock. Let’s check it out.   To change the bridge through which your locks connect to WiFi from the Nest Secure to the Nest Connect and also keep the functionality of the Nest Secure, follow the steps below:   Reset the Nest x Yale Lock devices to factory settings. Remove the locks from the Nest app. Create a new empty home structure in the Nest app. Add the Nest Connect to this new structure, then add the Nest x Yale Lock devices. Let me know how it goes.   All the best, Lance

I tried to respond to him with a few questions but my reply was rejected so I'm trying here as well:

1. How do I reset the Nest x Yale Lock to factory setting?  Then how do I enter my entry code again?

2. What does "Create a new epty home structure" mean?  Does that mean in my current Home that I should create a new empty room and add the Nest Connect to this room?

3. Do I then add the nest x Yale locks to the app via the Nest Connect in the new room?

Obviously I'm clueless.

I was told my best support to also create a “new home” and transfer 4x cameras, thermostat, 4x protects, and my yale lock to a “new home” as well because of error codes NA013 and NA024 when I try to connect it to my existing home with the Nest Guard removed. This seems crazy, because under my existing home there seems to be a bug in the app where it doesn’t tell you to turn the connect on after scanning the QR code. The error codes just pop up. It also doesn’t connect when I enter the code on the back of the device, as the network doesn’t show up on the app.

Of course the connect easily connects a “new home” but setting up all of those devices again and losing the settings is the last thing that I want to do.

So was there a workaround?

you seem to indicate that part of the problem was not being told to turn the Nest Connect on after scanning the QR code.  I’m not sure what turning it on entails, but did that allow you to put it in your existing home?

Hi folks,

@Boomerut, I’d be happy to help you with your questions.

  1. You can check out this guide on how to factory reset the Nest × Yale Lock. After you reset the lock, you must create a master passcode on the lock before you set it up with the Nest app.
  2. We recommend creating a new empty structure to add the new Nest Connect and the Nest x Yale Lock so that the lock won’t try to reconnect to the Nest Secure, which happens if you add the lock again to the same existing structure.
  3. Yes, once you have a new home structure, you can add the Nest Connect first, then the Nest x Yale lock.

Keep me posted.

Thanks for the help, MVhomeowner.

Regards,

Lance

I was able to get the Nest Connect and Nest Yale Lock to connect to my original home by removing one of the devices already connected to my home (the device the Nest Connect was unsuccessfully trying to use to join to the home). Once removed, my Nest Connect and Nest Yale Lock connected to the original home without issue.

Hope this helps someone! Quite a frustrating response from Google to suggest that a new home must be created, and I hope they provide a more reasonable solution soon.

How did you know which device it was trying to use?

The app displayed the device it was attempting to use to join the home (before the error message displayed).
