Yale Lock False Low Battery

TedL
Community Member

So, I’ve been having to change the batteries fairly often on the lock, about once a month, so this time, after putting new batteries in, I received the first battery is low alert after about 3 weeks and decided to just wait and see how long it takes for it to actually die.

It has now been an additional 3 weeks of frequent use and it’s still going strong. Is there a way to adjust how low it starts saying low battery? Because with half the battery life left is a bit ridiculous…

Hi TedL,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the Nest x Yale Lock. Don’t worry, help’s here.

While there isn’t a way to change when the Nest app will notify you if the battery is low, this is working as intended. You’ll get two notifications from the Nest app: the first when they’re getting low and have about a month of life left, and the second notification when they’re critically low and should be replaced right away.

You can find more information here on how to check and change your Nest × Yale Lock's batteries.

Our team is working hard to deliver the best experience possible to our users. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us. I'd suggest sharing your feedback about Google Nest.

Keep an eye out for any updates on the Google Nest Community page.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

Lance

After changing the batteries three times, the lock keep saying that the battery is low. Do not know what to do.

Hello everyone,

@Humberto1, thanks for joining the discussion. I know how it feels when something isn’t working the way it should. Let’s get this resolved.

A few questions: what type of batteries did you use? Is there a lot of lock/unlock activity using the device? What is the temperature where the Nest x Yale Lock is installed?

It is recommended to use standard AA alkaline batteries; don’t use rechargeable NiMH batteries or other kinds of batteries. The expected battery life is reduced when the lock is used in cold environments, if there’s a lot of activity, and if wrong or poor batteries are used.

Keep me posted.

@TedL, have you seen the response above? Reach out if you have any additional questions.

Regards,

Lance

I’m having the same issue. I have changed the batteries to brand new batteries three times now and it doesn’t matter, the lock keeps saying that the battery is low.

I'm having the same issue, and it's very annoying. I've used a battery charge tester after the "critically low" warnings, and the batteries show they have at least a 50% charge left.  I've turned off nearly all the notifications, and I've made sure the wifi signal near the lock is strong. I only use the lock a couple of times a day. The batteries are standard alkaline and temperature is normal.

I let mine go until the lock started opening slowly, which was only a few days ago. So it went for an additional 5 or so weeks after I created this thread, so in total it went for 3 weeks without any sort of alert, and then an additional 8 weeks of low battery alerts until it actually started slowing down. This is 100% an issue that needs to be fixed.
