I am trying to add another Google Home Mini (mfg 7/2018) to our network.  I have followed instructions in Google Home. I have checke to make sure i jave the latest update to Google Home. I chose + to add new device. Google searches for and finds the new device.  Then I am instructed to go to the Help section to complete the process . Help is NO help. I don't see a tile for the new device and I don't know what to do next.

Ok, sometimes the device gets added but it dont say so during setup. So then you close app down, re open and go to the bottom of your room list, the device might be listed there but not yet moved into your home and room.

If the device is not listed, you can only try again, its important to be on a network that is the same as an existing device. 2.4 or 5g both work.

Right now im having problems with the app not working correctly on new phones, so if you have an older phone, perhaps one you used before, try setting it up on that. Later your new phone will load it ok.

So if its listed but you cannot fo anything with it, delete the device from home app, switch device off for 1 min and switch it back on, while its booting up load the app and wait, wait, wait because sometimes the device will show in the home app under the homes name, then you click on it to setup.

A year or more ago these devices was so easy to add, but there is a lot of problems with the home app, so it might not be something your doing.

Good luck

Hi everyone,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

@danettepage55, sorry to hear about your experience on setting up your Google Home Mini. Before we completely set it up, let's make sure that these are met:

  • A speaker or display.
  • Latest version of the Google Home app.
  • Latest version of the Google app.
  • A Google Account.
  • A mobile phone or tablet that:
    • Has Android 8.0 or later.
    • Works with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi network (a WPA-2 Enterprise network won't work).
    • Has Bluetooth turned on.
  • An Internet connection and secure wireless network.
  • If you already use Duo for video calling, make sure that you use the same Google Account in Duo and in the Google Home app.

Also, could you also provide if there are any prompts that shows while you attempt to set it up?

By the way, thanks @kingjohn for sharing some tips.

Best,

Princess
