Alexa as a replacement

I asked my living room mini how it would feel being replaced by an Alexa. 🙂

It responded that each smart device has something unique to offer??

All I want, is one that can understand on from off, hear me when in the same room as opposed to one 20ft away through closed doors, and can understand time? 😞

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I know how it feels when something is not working on your device. I'd love to help.

A few questions:

  • When did the issue start?
  • What specific Google Home/Nest device do you have?
  • What specific smart device are you trying to control via voice command?
  • Is it working before?
  • Are you able to control it from the native and Google Home app?
  • Does the same thing happen when you control it using the Google Assistant app on your from?
  • Are there other features affected?

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Muddi,

It is part of my ongoing issue with all 4 minis in pretty much anything I ask them to do. 😞

Today I asked the Living room mini to switch the printer on.
Mini: Ok, switching the printer off. ????

I have been asked to reboot almost everything in the house and reinstall the minis, which I will do when I come back from holiday. At least the routines still work. (Fingers crossed)

Just checked my activity.
I actually said 'Switch the printer on' , it heard 'Switch off the printer?' ?????

Then when I responded 'I said turn the printer on' it responds 'Got it, turning the printer on'

All my minis appear to have selective hearing? 😞

Hey Gasman,

Thanks for the details. We want to make sure that we cover all the steps here. Let's go ahead and check "My Activity" on the Google Home app. These will help us verify if your device hears your command properly. Follow the steps below to know how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top-right, tap the account.
  3. Tap My Activity .

Cheers,

Muddi

Muddi,
Let us close this for now, as I am in the USA on holiday.
I have checked my activity and can see that the devices have selective hearing.

Please not I do not have speech impediment and can pronounce my words correctly. If I ask the second time, then the request generally gets done.
