Apple Music plays live versions or remixes of popular songs

Mrweatherbee

I have Apple Music linked to my Google Home setup and using a Nest Audio in my garage. Let’s say I ask “Hey Google play Machinehead by Bush”. I get some random live concert recording instead of the obviously more common album version. All of Me by John Legend plays a dance club remix with electronic handclaps.  This happening now more often than not with many songs. What is going on? I cannot figure out an alternative set of commands to play the desired tracks.

Hi Mrweatherbee,

This is not the experience we want you to have; let me help you. A few questions: when did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? Have you tried other music services or radio stations?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Also, you must link your Google account with your Apple Music account. Note: An Apple Music subscription is required to play music with Google Nest and Home devices.

Furthermore, verify the commands given by checking the audio recording in “My Activity”. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the upper-right, tap the account icon.
  3. Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon > choose another account or Add another account.
  4. Select My Activity.
Note: This opens a list of all recent voice commands the customer has given.
  5. Identify the most recent command that generated a failed response.
  6. Select Details below their Assistant Query (this will expand out the details).
  7. Tap the Play button on the query card (have them play a few) to confirm from My Activity what the speaker or display heard at the time the issue occurred.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi. I reset everything.  Confirmed, I have a paid subscription to Apple Music, and it is linked to Google Home as my preferred music service.

where is “My Activity”? Is is the “Activity” icon at the bottom of the Home app screen? It seems to only show cameras and thermostat, I can’t see voice commands for my best speakers?

Hey Mrweatherbee,

Sorry for the delayed response. We'd like to make sure if you've factory reset your Google Nest Audio using this article. If not, please reset your device and set it up again. Verify if it's now playing music from Apple Music correctly.

Also, you can reach My Activity settings by following this guide: open the Google Home app, > Choose Settings > Scroll down to Home features > Tap on Privacy > Select Home Activity. You can find your recent voice commands and the answer that your speaker provided there.

Thanks,
Lovely
