Assistant via Home & Home Mini refuse to play Supermix on YouTube Music

It seems to be impossible to get Google Assistant to play My Supermix from YouTube music when using any iteration of Google Home, Google Home Mini or Nest Mini (I have all).

The result is either a long winded response that claims ‘choosing songs is only available with YouTube Music Premium’ or some random playlist that has nothing to do with any songs that I play.

I have had Google Music family premium for a number of years, although these frustrations are likely to see me switching to another provider.

This is occurring for all members of my family across 5 devices. Multiple restarts and different phases have been tried.

Has anyone managed to work around this, other than casting from a phone?

Hi be11aml,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Home Mini and other speakers aren't playing My Supermix on YouTube. I'm here to help!

To gather more information, I'd like to ask the following:

  • Does this inconvenience occur only with My Supermix, or does it happen with other songs or playlists as well?
  • Have you noticed if the situation is specific to YouTube or if it affects other music services too?

In this situation, I’d suggest the following steps:

  • Check for updates for the Google Home Mini and the other speakers, YouTube, and mobile software versions.
  • Restart your Google Nest speakers one by one. Unplug it, wait a few minutes, then plug it back in. For reference, you can check out this article: Reboot Google Nest or Home speaker or display.
  • Check if Restricted Mode settings are turned on. This is a YouTube setting that can be used to filter out potentially mature music and videos on your device.
  • Relink YouTube service in the Google Home app:
    • Tap on your Google Nest speaker.
    • Go to Settings > Services.
    • Unlink YouTube and then relink it.
  • Ensure your Google speakers are connected to a strong Wi-Fi network.
  • Try using different or advanced voice commands to play My Supermix on YouTube. You can check out this article: Listen to music on Google Nest speakers and displays.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Thank you for the reply.

This only happens when asking for ‘My Supermix’.  As I mentioned, this seems to cause the system to think I do not have a Music Premium subscription.

All other playlists work as expected.

Hi there!

I understand how frustrating it can be when your Google Assistant isn't working as expected.

Here are some steps you can try:

  • Check for updates: Ensure your Google Home app, YouTube Music app, and all devices are up-to-date.
  • Relink accounts: Try removing and re-adding your YouTube Music account to the Google Home app.
  • Try different commands: Experiment with various voice commands like "Play my Supermix" or "Play Supermix on YouTube Music."
  • Clear app data: Clearing the YouTube Music app's cache and data might resolve temporary issues.

If these steps don't work, I recommend reaching out to our Google Nest support directly. They can provide more tailored assistance and investigate the issue further.

I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this issue.

Regards,

Brandon.
