Broadcast to a Speaker Group that has Default Bluetooth Speakers

Boblike

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone got any experience with setting up several Google devices in a home speaker group?

I have set up a number of Google speakers into a home speaker group.  Within this speaker group, I have a Google mini (Gen-1), that is Bluetooth paired to my Hi-Fi.  If I ask for music on the Google mini or broadcast to the speaker group from one of the Google devices, then the sound comes out of the paired Bluetooth Hi-Fi speaker perfectly.  However, when cast music from my PC (Chrome web browser) to the Google mini or the speaker group the sound only comes out of the Google mini.

Can anyone tell me how to broadcast from my Chrome browser to the speaker group and get the sound out of my paired Bluetooth speaker?

Thanks in advance...

Hi Boblike,

Thanks for reaching out.

If you want to cast music to a speaker group, make sure that all the speakers are connected on the same Wi-Fi network and in the same home structure. Check if all the speakers are within a good range from each other and from the router.

If you use speaker groups to listen to media like music, podcasts and audiobooks from multiple speakers at once, you can continue to do that with your Bluetooth speaker. Just add the Google Nest or Home device that's connected to the Bluetooth speaker to any speaker group. Learn how to create or add your speaker to an audio group.

Hope this helps.

Princess

Hi All,

Many thanks for checking in with me and giving me some things to try...  However, the same problem is still occurring no matter how I set up my devices on my network.

My Google device works perfectly when paired with a Bluetooth speaker, with commands coming from the Google device and music coming from the Bluetooth speaker.

The same Google device can be set into a Speaker Group without the Bluetooth speaker connected and streams audio without any issues.

However, if you have paired the Bluetooth Speak to the google device and then stream music to the Speaker Group as above, then the audio comes from the Google Speaker and not the Bluetooth Speaker.

Hey Boblike,

Speaker groups containing non-Google speakers or Cast-based devices may not work properly in speaker groups if they don’t receive a software update. Customers may notice that those devices don’t play audio in a speaker group. Third-party Cast devices like soundbars with Chromecast built-in will need to be updated to Cast firmware 1.52.272222 and above.

  • Note: Not all device models will receive software updates. As a result, they may no longer work in speaker groups.

You might want to check with your Bluetooth speaker manufacturer if there's a way to update your device software.

Hope this information helps!

Thanks,

Alex

Alex,

Many thanks for your help in trying to resolve this problem.  To clarify, all my audio devices in the "Home" network are Google units and I have no cast devices other than my Google chrome cast units.  The Bluetooth speakers are LG speaker that accepts Bluetooth input.  The speakers are paired with a Google Mini and work perfectly stand-alone.   When I make a speaker group with another Google speaker and cast to the speaker group, then the audio on the Google Mini reverts back ti the Google Mini and no sound comes from the LG speaker.

  • Google Mini = 1.56.282045
  • Google Home = 1.56.282045
  • Google Hub = 1.60.305621

I have tried mixing the speaker group to have different Google speakers, but the outcome is always the same.

Thanks for helping...
