Can't connect to new mini gen 1.

I bought a brand new Google home mini gen 1 on eBay, still sealed in box. When I tried to set it up in the Google Home app, I was told that since this device had not been connected to the internet for a long time, I had to run the Google device utility app to activate it. I downloaded that app and it sees the device. When I try to activate it, I get an error pop up that says "Could not connect to your Google Home mini".

This seems to be a dead end.

Any thoughts?

I was able to overcome this issue.

I tried it with an iPhone instead of an Android and that did the trick. Looks like the issue might have been with the Android version of the app, not the device itself.
