Cannot broadcast messages

HernanG
Community Member

Hello,

Situation is: I just cannot broadcast messages at home.

Current configuration is: 1 Nest WiFi router + 2 repeaters + 1 Google Home mini.

Nest router is connected Ethernet to the Internet provider router, wifi signal is strong and all devices are connected to the same wifi. Also, I checked that my user is linked to all devices.

Firmware Wifi Router: 1.4150.376.22

Repeaters Firmware version: 1.56.315675

Google Home Mini Firmware: 1.56.324896

Android google home version in my phone: 2.63.1.12

Situation; Cannot broadcast. When pressing the button in the android app I just get 3 dots as if processing and nothing happens. If I say "broadcast xxx" to the speaker or phone, it just looks for results in Google. I am mostly using the services in Spanish, though tried in English as well (response is "Sorry, I don't understand" when voicing a broadcast command.)

For further reference, I am located in Argentina but the Nest devices were purchased in US in case this could have some additional restrictions.

Hi HernanG

Thanks for reaching out and for providing detailed information on your issue — these are of great help!

Here is the checklist of the requirements so you can broadcast from the phone to your Google Home Mini. Some of these are already fulfilled based on your post, I’m just putting it in for reference.

Broadcast from phone to speaker or display

What you need:

  1. A phone with the Google Assistant.
  2. At least one speaker or display.
  3. Make sure your phone meets the Google Assistant requirements.
  4. Make sure that the same Google Account signed in on the phone is signed in to each speakers or displays.
  5. Make sure Do not disturb is off.
  6. The speaker or display's firmware version is 1.39154941 or later.

Where the broadcast plays:

If the message is started on a phone, it plays on all speakers or displays that are signed in to the same Google Account

Your phone doesn't need to be on the same Wi-Fi network as your speakers or displays.

Check this link for more information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Juni

Hello. Thanks for your reply. Let me address each of the points you mentioned:

A phone with the Google Assistant: Yes, version 2.63.1.12

At least one speaker or display.: 2 Nest speakers, 1 Google Home Mini speaker

Make sure your phone meets the Google Assistant requirements: Yes, Samsung S20 with Android 13 and Assistant working for all other devices and services

Make sure that the same Google Account signed in on the phone is signed in to each speakers or displays.. Checked. All devices has my account (+3 other from my family) linked as checked via Google Home

Make sure Do not disturb is off. Confirmed

The speaker or display's firmware version is 1.39154941 or later That one is tricky, as the firmware version displayed in Google Home is 1.56.315675 which is not exactly in the same format as the one requested. I guess it is OK.

Your phone doesn't need to be on the same Wi-Fi network as your speakers or displays.: They are anyway

If the message is started on a phone, it plays on all speakers or displays that are signed in to the same Google Account. Cannot even send the message via phone, it does not ask me for the message after hitting the button (remains in processing state)

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi there,

Thanks for the details you provided. A few things: are you using the Google Home app when using the Broadcast feature? How about using the Google Assistant app? Have you tried using another phone to further isolate the issue? When you do the broadcast using one of the Nest speakers, is it working?

You can do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest speakers/ displays and mobile phone for 30 seconds, then do the same thing to your Wi-Fi router to refresh all the devices and your Wi-Fi signal.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Juni
