Cannot rename Nest Mini or add to speaker group (Resolved by exchanging to a new Nest Mini)

I have a speaker group that currently consists of a 2nd gen Nest Hub, a 1st gen Google Home Mini. I have another 2nd gen Nest Mini that I want added to the group, but I just get the "The operation couldn't be completed. (com.google.CastFramework.SetupLib.CastSetupError error 0.)

I also wanted to rename the speaker, but I get the "Problem connecting to cloud" error message.

I have done a factory reset for the Nest Mini, but am still faced with the same 2 error messages so it did not save the problem. I also tried accessing Google Home app from multiple devices but that did not work either.

Update: ended up going through troubleshooting steps with a Nest staff and nothing worked. So I sent the device back and got a new one. The new Nest Mini has been working flawlessly so it might be some hardware/firmware issue to the unit I previously had.

Having a similar issue. I want to remove my TV from the group and it says "you cannot make changes to this group"

Another issue i forgot to mention: this Nest Mini also tends to unlink itself and I have to link it back almost every day

Is that possibly a WIFI issue? like your router shuts off and the nest loses internet?

Nope, all devices are connected to the same wi-fi but other devices are fine. Apparently the self-unlinking is a common (mis-)behaviour among Nest devices

it might be related to some recent changes talked about in this recent google nest blog post

there also this google help article on resetting nest minis that mentions multiple power cycles

Your device may be affected by this issue if both of these are true:

  • Your speaker is unresponsive when you say "Hey Google."
  • Your speaker doesn't make any sound when you attempt to factory reset it.

If you’re experiencing this behavior, you’ll need to factory reset your speaker using this workaround:

  1. Unplug the power cord from your speaker. Wait for 10 seconds. Plug it back in, and wait until all 4 lights on top illuminate.
  2. Repeat step 1, 10 more times.
  3. After you plug your speaker back in the final time, you'll need to wait a few moments for the device to reset. It will announce "Welcome to Google Home. To get started, download the Google Home app on a phone or tablet," to let you know that it’s ready for setup.

This solution could be tedious, but your patience is greatly appreciated.

Hi Jake, thanks for the response. I went through the whole process of troubleshooting and ended up sending the problematic Nest Mini back. The new one I received has been working flawlessly so it might just be an error to the specific device.
