Cannot set up stereo speaker pair

Alan_P

Hello, I am unable to get speaker pairing to work with 2 google home speakers. It used to work. I can set up the pair successfully but when I cast to the pair the left speaker say 'I can't connect to the other speaker. Make sure it is turned on.'  it is turned on. When the speakers are unpaired they work correctly so they are both connected to the network and they are on the same network.

I have tried setting up both speakers as the left speaker but the result is the same.

I have a Linksys router.

Hey there,
Sorry for the late response, but I wanted to drop in here to help.

I understand that these issues can be confusing but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Just wanted to double check to see if you were still needing help on this? If so, what troubleshooting steps have you tried?

Please let me know.

Best regards,
Garrett DS

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch. I am still having problems.

Pairing the speakers appears to work correctly but when I try to cast music to the pair the left speaker says it cannot communicate with the other speaker. I can cast music to each speaker independently when they are not paired.

I have tried each speaker as the left one. I have reset both speakers. I have deleted both from the google home app and set them up again. Nothing has worked.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear that you're still having issues with this.

Have you tried creating a Speaker Group within the Google Home app with your speakers? Please review that article and see if the troubleshooting steps there help.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Hi

I have tried setting up a group. However when I cast to the group the music only comes out of one speaker. I can cast to each speaker separately.

Hey there,

Thanks for letting me know what you have tried. If you do a factory reset on the device that isn't working when you set up the speaker group, that should help it to fix the issue. After doing the factory reset, you can relink the speaker to your app and that should help.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Garret

Thanks for your continued help.

I had already tried factory resetting both speakers but it made no difference. Still music coming from one one speaker in the group.

I assume that it is using multicast to communicate with both speakers simultaneously.  Is there a setting somewhere that is wrong?

Hi there Alan,

Sorry to hear about your continued troubles.

I would suggest doing a factory reset to all of the speakers that you are using, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and unlinking and relinking the speakers to the app, then deleting and re creating the speaker group as well.

Please let me know after you have tried all of those steps.

Hi Garrett,

I had tried that before but I have again factory reset both speakers, uninstalled Google Home, installed Google Home, re-setup both speakers and recreated the group. No better I'm afraid.

Thanks for your continued help.

Hi Alan,

Hmm, this is definitely tricky. I know you mentioned that the speakers work independently of each other as well, correct? The issue occurs when you try to pair them together. The speakers are both on the same network as well-- are the speakers in the same room as the router?

I'm just wracking my brain trying to think of any other troubleshooting steps we haven't tried as normally, the factory reset is the thing that usually fixes any issues.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Garrett

Sorry for not replying sooner.

However I think I have solved the problem. I have reset speakers and connected the speakers and my phone to a different router/network. Setting up a group now working correctly with music on both speakers. I seems that there is a problem with original router. Any ideas what setting is incorrect?

Thanks for your help

Hey there,

That is good news! I have heard that trying different bands within the network whether it be 2.4 or the 5 can fix the issue as well.

Please let me know if you have any other questions as I will lock this in 24 hours.
