Commands to NestHub 2nd Gen will trigger lights

CholoSwaggins

Asking it set a timer, play some music, weather, etc works but 7 times out of 10 it will also turn on lights in two different rooms at the same time.

Already factory reset the thing twice. Unlinked it to any rooms or groups.

Any tips or advice?

Hi CholoSwaggins,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us.

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should, so let’s get this resolved. Could you check My Activity to check what the display heard when the issue occurred. Follow these steps to check it.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. At the upper-right, tap the account icon.
  3. Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon and then choose another account or Add another account .
  4. Select My Activity.

Also, do you have other Nest speakers or displays? If so, is the issue happening to the other ones?

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Juni

Hi Juni,

Thank you for the response and troubleshooting steps.

I issued the following command, "Hey Google play some music" and My Activity shows nothing unusual.

Assistant...

Got it, music from YouTube Music.
Playing on Kitchen group…

There are multiple Nest devices, such as a 1st gen Google Home and a couple Minis, but the light triggering issue only started after adding a new Google Nest display device. Also, it is not always repeatable. Tried the same command and this time it did not activate the lights.

Hi there,

Thanks for the response and sorry that you are still experiencing the issue. It's good to know that it has not done it this time, but let’s not stop here. You can do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest speaker and lights for 30 seconds, then do the same thing to your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal. Once done observe it again and reply to this thread for the update.

Best,

Juni
