Display Phone Number Using Nest Hub to Make Calls

Unable to add phone number to Google Home app to display when trying to make a call from Nest Hub. Troubleshooted with support and was ultimately told this is not possible using iphone and to borrow someone’s android. Anyone else seeing this issue?

This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: which Nest speakers are we working with? Is it a Nest Hub or a Nest Hub 2nd Gen w/sleep sensing? When did your issue begin? Do you have a case ID from your previous interaction that I can review so that we would know what troubleshooting steps you took? What type of call are you trying to make and from what country are you in?

If you want to add contacts, you can set up household contacts. Follow these steps:

1. Open the Google Home app.
2. At the top right, tap your account >  Assistant settings > You > Your people.
3. Tap who you want to add to your household contacts.
   • If the person isn’t listed, tap Add person and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Turn on Household contact.
5. Tap Save.

Hi Dan,

We’re working with Nest Hub 2nd gen. No case ID was provided to me, it was through chat.

I’m in the US tried deleting and reinstalling the Google Home app. I also Made sure my phone number is on my google account, but when I make a call using the Hub my phone number is blocked. I already read all the guides including the one where there are instructions for iPhone, but I am unable to select my phone number in the Google Home app:

Assistant Settings > Communication > Call Providers > Your Own Number (I am unable to select this)

The previous rep I chatted with said they ARE able to replicate the issue using an iPhone and said iPhone is not supported… but the guide has instructions on using an iPhone so either your rep is wrong or your guide is wrong.

Apologies for the inconvenience. Do you, by chance,  have the case ID from the chat with the previous representative? Also, on the guide that I provided above? What type of call are you trying to do? Is it via:

• Duo calling
• Google-supported calls
• Operator calling

You can check each one for us to know its requirements and the troubleshooting steps to take.

No Case ID was provided to me.

I am trying to make a Google Supported call and the calls themselves work, but I am unable to display my phone number when making the calls. 

In the guide you provided under section “Show your number when you make calls” I am unable to select my phone number in the Google Home app:

Assistant Settings > Communication > Call Providers > Your Own Number (I am unable to select this in order to display my number when making calls)

Could you send us a screenshot of the page where it’s not allowing you to select your phone number. Before doing so, please avoid posting sensitive and personal information to avoid privacy and security concerns. Here’s how:

1. Reply to this post.
2. Click Insert Image.
3. Choose an image source location.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
5. Also, you can tap the "Drag and Drop" option. Maximum attachment is 5 MB.

There is no option to insert image from a mobile device.

Here are the steps you can take to see where I am:

1. Open Google Home app

2. Select your account by selecting your photo in the top right.

3. Select Assistant Settings

4. Scroll down to Communication

5. Select Call Providers

6. Select Your own number (I am unable to select this)

Hi MDay,

Apologies for the confusion but, the link that you provided is for carrier/mobile calling. It’s a different type of call when compared to the one you mentioned above which is Google Supported calls.

Mobile calling is available through:

• Google Fi (US)
• Google Voice (US)

Adding and editing phone numbers to show when calling using Google-supported calls is only available on Android devices.
