When using the Xfinity streaming app, and I hit the cast button to cast to my home device, I get the above error message it says to retry or it says that it can’t cast from this device, but this is just a recent change of events it used to work perfectly

I am able to cast from other platforms just fine like Disney or Netflix but the recent change is, I can’t cast anymore from Xfinity

Interestingly enough, the same is happening to the Canadian cable TV carrier Rogers (they use the same equipment as Xfinity), and I can cast any streaming service from my phone but not the Rogers/Xfinity app.

I can cast fine using the app to other chromecast devices without issue.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

It seems like both of you have the same provider issue. You can try to uninstall and reinstall the app or try to use another phone to further isolate the issue. If this does not fix it, and since you are able to cast using other services, you can try to contact Xfinity Support to seek further help.

Regards,

Juni

Hmmm.....works with everything else except a Google product and I will need to contact the provider of the app instead of the problem device.....ok, I get it...

Hi RockGlide,

Since you are able to cast other applications except Xfinity app. This looks like an issue on their server and not your Chromecast device. Right now, it is best to check it with the provider itself to check if they are getting similar reports.

Thanks for understanding.

I have reached out to the developer of the app and they are investigating.

Hey RockGlide,

Perfect! I'll keep the thread open for a while and wait for an update from Xfinity. Please do not hesitate to update the thread once you hear anything from them.

Hi RockGlide,

I'm just checking in to see if you have received an update from Xfinity?

I have not.

As with most developers, I don't expect an answer for weeks.

Hey folks,

Thanks for the quick response. Let's send feedback on your devices. Make sure to send it right after you experience the issue so we can further check what's going on. Follow the steps below or visit this link for more steps:

Step 1. Turn on device reports

  1. Make sure that your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top-right corner of the screen, tap Settings > Recognition and sharing.
  5. Turn on Send [device model] device usage and crash reports to Google. (Example: Send Google Home device usage and crash reports to Google.)

Step 2. Share your feedback

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Tap Feedback > tap the device for which you'd like to submit feedback.
  4. To display available emails, in the 'From:' section, tap the arrow on the right. Select your email address.
  5. In the feedback summary, write a brief description of your issue.
  6. Make sure that you tick the box for Screenshot and System logs.
  7. To submit feedback, at the top-right corner, tap Send.

Cheers,

Muddi

This just started with me as well. I can stream all the channels fine on my devices. However, its' only an issue when casting to Nest Hub Displays. I can cast to Google TV's with Chromecast just fine still. The other tricky part of it.... is that it is only specific channels! Channels that are not working include (but not limited to) are ABC, FS1, TNT. Channels that I can still stream to Nests include (but not limited to) NBC, ESPN.

Same results when casting from a Pixel 7 and from a Windows 10 machine via Chrome.

Smells of licensing issues

What channels are you trying to cast? Can you try casting ESPN (ESPN is one of few that doesn't give me that error)? What device are you trying to cast to? eg.. Chromecast, Chromecast with Google TV, Nest Display?
