Error when linking account

There are other older locked threads on this issue so I am starting a new one.  I am setting up a new (to me) nest speaker that has been factory re-set.  The device goes through the process, connects to wi-fi and fails on an account linking error.

Nothing will get me past that error.  I am using a personal gmail account.

Hi schwieb,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have, and we appreciate you taking the steps before posting. For confirmation, does the personal Gmail account that you’re using have dual authentication? When you did the factory reset, were they the same steps as what you see in this link?

How about if you try setting up either using a different phone or another Google account and see if the behavior persists.

Looking forward to your response.

@Kaseymisty, are you also having the same concern? What troubleshooting steps have you done?

Best,

Dan

Nope, that did not help.  Still getting the error 3 weeks in. Different account may work, but what good is that?  How do I fix my google account so that it works?

Hello schwieb,

To confirm, did you enable advanced protection on your account? If yes, you will need to disable it first, then enable it once you're done setting up your device.

Cheers,

Two-step verification is enabled but advanced protection should not be.  I dont pay for that service.

Hi there,

Got it! Could you try turning off the 2-step verification to check if you'll be able to finish the setup? If it is successful, you can go ahead and turn on the 2-step verification again.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi
