Feature Request (Restrict Casting to Devices)

jonasrhr

Request:

Please integrate an option in the device settings for the Nest family, Android TV and Chromecast, which allows the device's owner to limit the casting access by other people on the same network to each of the mentioned devices. As far as I know, the only currently available option (Let others control your cast media) allows the owner to restrict control of the content he himself is streaming to the device, but does not restrict others to cast their content to it.

Here is why:

It seems like the developers had/have the misconception, that anyone with access to the casting device's network is known and trusted to/by the owner and therefore should automatically be able to cast to the device. This is not the case e.g. student dorm / workplace.

Hi @jonasrhr, the issue is more about the devices being designed to be used with a secure WiFi personal network. Operating in a shared network and environment, dorms or workplace is not generally how the device is designed to be setup. If you want to avoid the problem, you might want to look into getting a travel router and creating a secure Wifi network in your dorm room or workplace.
