Google Home Devices Not Controlling Chromecast Ultra Anymore

In recent weeks, my Google Home devices with displays (two hubs and one hub max) have been rendered nearly useless.  They cannot control video on my Chromecast.  My mini speakers work just fine; this only seems to affect the hubs with displays and my phone.  It will go something like this:

Me: "Hey Google, play Encanto on Disney Plus on the Living Room TV."

Hub: "I don't know, but here's what I found on search."

or perhaps this:

Me: "Hey Google, turn off the Living Room TV."
Hub: "I need to know where to play the video.  Please say the exact name of the screen."

Again, the minis work just fine; it's the hubs that are bugged.  Also the assistant on my phone (Pixel 5a).

Here's the thing: it only seems to affect the Chromecast connected to my living room TV (Chromecast Ultra, firmware version 1.56.281627).  The one in my bedroom (Chromecast 2nd gen, firmware version 1.56.275994) can be controlled by all of my assistant devices.

Hi cfoxusmc,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Since this thread hasn't had activity in a while, we're going to close it to keep content fresh.

If you're still having trouble casting using your Nest display on your Chromecast, please give these steps a try:

  1. Make sure your devices are within 15-20 feet of your router and connected to the same network.
  2. Reboot your Nest displays, Chromecast and router to refresh the connection.
  3. Reset your Nest displays.

If the issue persists, feel free to submit another post and provide as many details as possible so that others can lend a hand. Hope this helps!

Best,
Alex
