Google Home Gen1 will only connect to open wifi?

My Google Home Gen1 stopped talking on the network so I factory reset the device.

Now it will only connect to Open Wifi and no longer connects to WPA/WPA2 networks.

I've factory reset several times and it's repeatable that I can only connect to open networks.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi @Bard24 ,

First I would like to thank you for posting in our community page, on the other hand I apologize for the inconvenience that you are having with your Google Home Gen 1. Let me tell you some troubleshooting steps that you can try to fix the problem.

1. Check Router Settings:

  • Security Mode: Ensure your router's Wi-Fi security mode is set to WPA/WPA2 (not WPA or WPA-Enterprise). Some routers might offer mixed modes like WPA/WPA2 (AES/TKIP). Try setting it to just WPA2 (AES) for now.
  • Guest Network: Temporarily disable any guest network feature on your router. Guest networks sometimes have different security settings that might be causing the issue.

2. Restart Devices:

  • Power Cycle: Restart both your Google Home Gen 1 and your router by unplugging them from power for about 30 seconds, then plugging them back in.

3. Update Google Home App:

  • Make sure you're using the latest version of the Google Home app on your phone or tablet. Updates often contain bug fixes and security improvements.

Important note:

If for some reason you still have the same issue you can call our customer service line for further assistance.

Regards,

Mario.
