Google Home Max Doesn't Appear for Casting (Dual Wi-FI Band Issue?)

Hello,

Ive been very happy with a Google Home Max for a few years, but recently it will sporadically not show up in list of devices when I want to cast or even look it up in my settings (In setting it will say disconnected). All of my Google Home Minis show up, and there's never an issue with them.

After unplugging and replugging the Max device it always shows up across all apps. But later it might disappear and re-appear. I cannot keep doing this every few days!

My GUESS is that it's confused by the dual band wifi from the google nest wifi router.

How can I troubleshoot this so that Google Home Max remains connected and shows up on my list of devices all the time? Can I force it to stick to one Wi-Fi band? Or any other guesses on what's going on?

Hi freedogshampoo,

Thanks for posting.

We understand your concern about your Google Home Max not working as it should. Let's check this out

Since you’ve mentioned, your Google Home Max will not show up on your list of devices once your phone automatically switches from a 2.4 GHz to 5GHz and vice versa. Your Google Home devices should be connected on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone.

Can you interchange your Google Home Max to one of your working Google Home Mini then monitor if it still disappears from your list of devices when you're casting.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

But what did you mean by 'interchange'? If you mean disconnect from one speaker to connect to the other I cannot since I only see one speaker listed an option to cast to.

Creating the speaker group with the mini has solved this though so now they always show up , just wanted to be clear  on what you were recommending

Hi there,

We appreciate your efforts and apologize for the confusion. By interchanging, we mean to change its location where the Google Max is placed to the location where your Google Home Mini is located.

Please keep on monitoring its behavior and notify us if you notice any changes on its behavior.

Hi Princess,

I will not interchange my devices to try to solve this as their current placement is best. Google Max in living room, mini in bathroom.

I have solved the issue by creating a speaker group with both devices. Now both devices appear all the time.

Thanks tho.

Since the Google Max sporadically dissapears on my list of devices but my Google Mini always appears, on Monday I decided ti create  a Speaker Group with both. I'm happy to say that the Speaker Group always appears! All week it has worked successfully.
