Google Home Mini (1st gen) won't activate

New Google Home Mini fresh out of sealed box.  Google Home app found the device but said it needed to be activated.  Downloaded and installed the Device Utility app.  Opened the Device Utility app and the app asked to turn off WiFi which it did. Searched for the Mini which it found.  Clicked start and received the error "Could not connect to your Google Home Mini.  Make sure it is nearby and that you connect to it when prompted."  Repeated several times, did a factory reset, always get the same result.  It finds the Mini but cannot connect.

I'm having the exact same issue. Can't see any other option to try, other than flinging it as far away from me as possible and buying another one 😕

Thanks for updating the Community forum of your resolution — it's a big help! Let us know if you have additional concerns and questions about your device, and we're glad to further assist you.

@GavG: To confirm, have you tried using a different phone? What country are you located in?

I have a Home Mini that worked for years before declaring that it would not connect to the internet.

Using my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G, I tried to setup again. I connected to the Mini, confirmed the beep, and selected the network before getting the message, "Could not connect to your Google Home Mini".

I tried rebooting, complete reset, rebooting my router, and rebooting my phone to reach the same error each time.

The error message "Could not connect to your Google Home Mini" after regularly being able to communicate with the Mini is very misleading.

Then, I resurrected my old ZTE Axon 7 and was able to complete the setup. It did take a lengthy amount of time to finish the network connection.

There is an obvious problem with the Google Home App working reliably with different phones to complete this setup.

We appreciate your efforts. I'm glad to know that it is already set up and working.

I'll make sure to let the team know about this. In the meantime, I would like to encourage you to send a feedback regarding this and for any features that you’re looking forward to using with our Google Nest devices.
