Google Home Mini not linking

When trying to connect to my Google Home Mini, I get to the page "Set Up Google Assistant" and when I try to click Next, I get this error

"The operation couldn't be completed. (kGSKErrorDomain error -83902.)"

I read that this error is caused by setting up the Google Home with a Google Workstation account which I don't have. My gmail account (this one) is a regular gmail account, and I was able to easily set up another Google Home Mini in another room. Any assistance?

Good to confirm you're using a normal personal Gmail account, because you're correct, previous reports of this issue were caused by attempting to use a Google Workspace account for setup. The cause of the recent reports of this issue is unclear unfortunately. What I have noticed is it seems to only be affecting iOS users.

What model of Nest Mini is it that you're not able to setup? What model is the one you successfully setup? This article will help you determine that:

Would you mind helping us troubleshoot by confirming the below?

  • You're using the latest version of iOS? As of writing that's iOS 17.0.3.
  • You're using the latest version of the Google Home app? As of writing that's 3.7.103.
  • You've tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it?
  • You've tried turning your phone off and on again?
  • Your phone's language and region is set to English?
  • Your Google account language is set to English? See here: https://myaccount.google.com/language
  • You're not using a VPN or a proxy on your phone or tablet? (If you don't know what those are ignore this).
  • iCloud private relay is turned off and local network access is enabled?
    • Open the iOS settings app. tap your name at the top > iCloud > Private Relay > OffTap back to the main settings screen > Privacy & Security > Local Network > Enable Google Home.
  • You've tried factory resetting the speaker? Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays

Have you also tried the alternate setup steps below?

  1. Force close the Google Home app. Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the Google Home app. On older devices with a home button, double-click the Home button, then swipe up on the Google Home app.
  2. Open your phone or tablet's settings app.
  3. Open the list of available Wi-Fi networks.
  4. Look for and connect to an available network with the name “GoogleHomeXXXX" (where XXXX is a random number).
  5. Once connected, re-open the Google Home app and follow the steps on screen.
