Google Home Won't Connect to Apple Music

MSguy57

Just purchased several Nest Audio speakers. In setting up Google Home, when I tried to link Apple Music it goes through all the steps and in the end I get a "Something Went Wrong. Try again" error message.

I have a paid subscription to Apple Music

I deleted and reloaded Google Home.

I reset and added the Nest Audio again.

I reset the Apple iPhone 13 (several times)

EVERYTHING else seems to be fine, just won't link to Apple Music.

I will have to return all the speakers if this can't be fixed which would be a shame given the great price they are selling for now.

I have had the same, identical problem and have been trying to resolve it for over a year. I have a Google Compatible smart speaker, and also my Sonos TV soundbar. I’ve tried to link my Apple Music account dozens of times, and while it’s always successful, when I ask my Google speakers to play a song, I get the same answer every time:

“Sorry, something went wrong. When you’re ready, give it another try”.

Hopefully, Google support will pick up on this…..we’re obviously not the only ones with this issue.

I finally read another thread that recommended changing my AppleID password. Once I did everything linked and worked.

Hi folks,

Hi there MSguy57, thanks for posting. Awesome - glad that worked. Feel free to reach out again should you have more questions/suggestions - we are here for you.

Hello Ganorthrop, thanks for the response. You can try the step MSguy57 did and let us know if it worked for you.

I did try it just a few hours ago (again) and still get the same error message. What should be simple does not seem to have an answer. Just to “A/B” the problem, I re-linked my Google Home to my old Spotify account, and it works perfectly (with ads of course since I no longer am a subscriber). I’ve been trying to connect my Apple Music account to my Google Home Account for over 18 months with the same answer each time. I’ve all but given up.

I'm also unable to link to Apple Music and I recently paid for a subscription so I could use it with my Google Home Mini.

I’ve tried that method over and over for over 18 months. Nada. Keeps rejecting the connection and gives me the same error message I stated in my original post.

Hi there,

@Ganorthrop, may I know what country are you located at?

By the way, thanks @RachelGomez123 for sharing some steps.

Best,

Princess

I live in the USA…..Washington State, Bellingham. I’m in the Northwest upper corner….just 15 miles from the Canadian Border.

Hi Ganorthrop,

Sorry for the late response. Let's make sure to select no default music for a while, unplug the Google Home for a few minutes and restart the Home app. After you plug it back, please check if you can connect to your Apple Music to see if there would be any changes.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

I have the same issue, every time I try to link Apple Music, I get an error message. So frustrating. Spotify connects no problem. I'm in Canada.

Hi BarbBur,

Thanks for responding. Could you please provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest speakers?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess

I actually have a Google Audio and two Google Minis (not Nests). I just reset one of the Minis, so now it has the latest firmware version, and matches the other two. I tried again to link to Apple, and I'm still getting the same message -  Something went wrong.. try again.
