You cannot turn off the green status light on Google Nest cameras, including the one on the Google Nest Hub Max. Ours can't be turned off either. I believe it's a legal and privacy requirement, like the green light on my 10-year-old iMac that always and only goes on when the camera is on. According to this "engadget" article, Google Nest changed the status light to be always on back in 2019:

https://www.engadget.com/20############-google-disables-nest-camera-status-light.html

"...we're changing how the status lights function on Nest cameras, Dropcam, and Nest Hello. You will be able to dim the light on your camera, but it will always be on when the camera is on. We're doing this to make sure you, and those around your camera, are aware when the camera is on and recording."

Google Nest inserts pound signs for links with numerical strings in this forum, so to get the "engadget" link to work, replace "20###" with 2019, then a hyphen, then 08, then another hyphen, then 15.
