Google Nest Audio Bricked

stepgie
Community Member

Hi, looking to get resolution on a bricked Nest Audio.

Some background: I came home after work on Dec 7 and found my Nest Audio unresponsive. I have a nest thermostat, home mini, and a nest hub in the same house that are working fine, only the Nest Audio was unresponsive.

Actions taken: I tried to reboot the unresponsive Nest Audio, the white dots flashed briefly, then nothing. Tried to reboot again, no response. I checked the outlet with another Google home device, and the outlet is fine. I used another power adapter that I confirmed works with other units on the affected Nest Audio, and still no response.

Online chat has generally been unhelpful, offering nothing else but "product is out of warranty, buy a new one". I was wondering if anyone here has a solution. Was there a recent update that bricked my device?

Thanks,

Yes, I attempted it but now there’s no response. No lights turn on, no indication that it’s powered up.

Hi @stepgie!

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I am sorry to hear that your Google Nest Audio is bricked, but no need to worry; help is here. Thank you for all the troubleshooting steps that you did at the same time. Thank you for your support as well @MplsCustomer. I need to know a few things about your Nest Audio in order to provide you with a better resolution.

  • Is the speaker or display plugged directly into a wall outlet or surge protector?
  • Have you tried to use another wall outlet?
  • Was there any type of electrical outage around the time the issue began?
  • Are other devices able to receive power from the same outlet?

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,
Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy,

  • It was plugged directly into a wall outlet
  • Yes, I used another wall outlet, where my other functioning google device was plugged into. I also plugged a functioning google device into the original wall outlet with no issue.
  • There wasn't an electrical outage, otherwise my other appliances would have reset their clocks.
  • Yes, the outlet is not the problem as I've plugged in multiple google devices into them and they drew power just fine.

I ruled out the outlet, and I ruled out the Nest Audio's power adapter, leaving only the actual Nest Audio unit as the source of the issue imo.

Hi @stepgie!

Thanks for your reply and the information shared. As you have already tried to reset your device, we will need to follow these extra troubleshooting steps:

  • On the side of the device, unplug the power cord for 10 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and wait until the 4 LEDs light up.
  • Repeat the first step 10 more times.
  • On the last attempt, leave the power cord plugged in.
  • Wait until the device announces, "Welcome to Google Home."

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy, I followed the directions and no LED lights came up. Those were the first steps I tried before too and got no response, that's why I went through ruling out the power adapter and outlets.
