Google Nest Hub Max not spotting activity and compatibility with Nest Aware

Hello,

I have a Google Nest Hub Max (https://www.currys.co.uk/products/google-nest-hub-max-with-google-assistant-chalk-10198652.html?sear...) and i’ve run into a few issues when trying to make use of the built in nest camera. These are:

1. The camera has not been picking up any activity, even when i’ve set up an activity zone.

2. I’m unable to view recorded camera footage in the Google Home app. In order to watch things back I have to use the Nest app.

2.a. Do I have to use the Nest app for the full functionality of my Nest Hub Max camera? Why is all functionality not in the Google Home app as it is a newer product?

3. I subscribed to Nest Aware to try and make full use of the camera in my Nest Hub Max but in the Google Home app (under Settings > Subscriptions > Nest Aware) it says that I have no Nest Aware compatible devices although it says on the Nest Aware pages that the Nest Hub Max is compatible.

This is really putting me off buying further Google Home/Nest products!

1. We have been noticing recently that the built-in Nest Cam on our Nest Hub Max is no longer flagging any events or sending notifications (even though notifications are enabled), though it is still recording those events when it is turned on (because we have a Nest Aware Plus subscription). In fact, the "Filter" icon is now simply missing in the Google Nest app for the Nest Cam in the Nest Hub Max. We've tried rebooting, and this is still the case.

One oddity is that, if "Home monitoring features" is turned on under Settings | Nest Cam in the Google Home app, the camera is NOT actually turned on unless you turn it on in either the Google Nest app or the Google Home app. If the camera is turned off in the apps, and you scroll up from the bottom of the Nest Hub Max, the camera icon shows that it is on, but it is not live, and if you click on the camera icon, the camera then shows as "offline" in both apps; you have to click the camera icon again to bring it back "online" (even though it is still off).

Another oddity is that if we turn on the Nest Cam in the Nest Hub Max in the Google Home app, and then go to the Google Nest app, the Google Nest app also shows a live view of the camera but in Settings it says the camera is off.

The Nest Cam in the Nest Hub Max has always been a little odd because it requires 2 apps to fully use it, but it's gotten worse.

2. In the Google Home app, it is only possible, by selecting the 3 dots in the upper right corner and selecting "Full history", to view EVENT history for any 1st gen Google Nest camera installed in the Google Nest app (even though the option says "Full history"). And since the Nest Cam in the Nest Hub Max is no longer flagging any events, you can't access any history for the Nest Cam in the Nest Hub Max in the Google Home app. Note that it is not currently possible, in the Google Home app, to view 24/7 history for any 1st gen Google Nest camera, including the Nest Cam in the Nest Hub Max.

3. We have both 1st and 2nd gen cameras, so in the Google Home app when we select Settings | Subscriptions | Nest Aware, it says "60-day event video history, 10-day 24/7 video history". PERHAPS, in your case (this is just a guess), it says "No Nest Aware compatible devices" because you don't happen to have any 2nd gen cameras or doorbells installed in the Google Home app.  If you go to Settings | Nest Aware in the Google Nest app, does it show your Nest Aware subscription?

Thank you so much for the reply.

So, I’ve randomly started getting notifications for activity since making my post however these have all been clups related to sounds (people talking, dog barking) and not motion. Is this normal for the Nest Hub Max?

Regarding everything else it seems as if what you’re saying is that the Google Nest Hub Max camera is a 1st Gen Nest Camera and therefore does not work fully in the Google Home app (hence why I also need to use the Google Nest app)?

@Tippy679

Yes, the Nest Cam in the Nest Hub Max is a 1st gen camera that works fully only in the Google Nest app.

The fact that the Nest Cam in the Nest Hub Max is no longer detection people and motion is a bug that has recently been introduced in the last month or so. For two years prior to that, it detected and sent notifications for people and motion events.
