Google Nest Hub Max

The Google account that was linked to my hub was deleted and the hub was factory reset. Attempted to link another account but keep receiving the error that the hub is linked to another account. 
The original account was recovered but the hub will not link to it - I get the same error message when trying to link.

Is there anything I can do?

I have been in contact with support. I called yesterday and went through all the steps with the agent. We were unable to resolve the issue. He requested a photo of the error message and my S/N, which I sent. The emails I have received since then have asked me to repeat the process again. It’s like they never even looked at the history report of my original call. The last email was about a pixel slate.
