Google Nest Hub doesn't recognise its name.

If I ask my Nest Hub to "Open YouTube" it opens it on my living room TV.

If I ask it to "Open YouTube on [Nest Hub Name] it says "I don't recognise that device."

The name is correct, as the transcription of my voice command is correct.

How can I open YouTube on my home hub (without casting)

I want to open YouTube and search for a video.

It only works correctly If I ask it to "Play [YouTube title/channel name] on YouTube" then it opens it on the hub.

Hello folks,

I know how it feels when something isn’t working the way it should, let’s get this sorted out.

When did it start happening? Were there any recent changes or updates on your network or apps? Also, is it only happening when playing YouTube video?

Try rebooting your Google Nest Hub and router to refresh the connection. Make sure your apps are updated as well.

Best,
Alex

When did it start? The day I bought it and plugged it in.

Have tried rebooting everything. That is, of course the first plan if action in these situations.

Hey FrungyPieFace,

Is it only happening when you're playing from YouTube? Do you have any other Google Assistant display or Chromecast in your home? Give resetting your Nest Hub a try to see if it'll make a difference.

Regards,

Alex

Hi.

Yes I have other devices in my home. One Chromecast and an android TV.

If I ask it to "Open YouTube or "Open YouTube Music" "Open YouTube here" it opens it on Living Room TV.

If I ask it "Open [video name/channel name/video genre] it opens on the Nest Hub.

Hey FrungyPieFace,

Chiming in, may I know the current name of your Nest Hub. Also, what is the firmware and operating system of your device?

Cheers,

Muddi

Hello. The name of the device is Bedroom Display, But I have tried other names as well and the issue persists.

Do you mean the firmware of my phone? Pixel 5a with android 12. Thank you.

Hi FrungyPieFace,

Thanks for the info.

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

I've tried resetting the best, renaming, Epping it and seeing it back to factory, still doing it. It's showing it's name as correct in Google home and casts to it from programs.

One thing I did notice is, if I just request it to pay Spotify (without saying it's name) so "play John Mayer on Spotify" it will play

Hi there,

Thanks for trying. Can you use the command, "OK Google, play YouTube". Also, check if your Nest Hub is set as the default display.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Select the device card of the speaker or display. For:
    • Google Nest displays: Tap Settings > Display > Default TV > select your Nest Hub.

Keep us posted.

Best,
Alex

"Open YouTube" opens on living room TV.

Display is set to default
