Google Nest Hub won't cast videos after latest update

I've noticed my kid can no longer select under Media for YouTube recommended videos or even when I try to cast from my cellphone on the same wifi...all i get is audio but no video display. It randomly works when I ask to play YouTube videos but doesn't allow you to select another video and them bugs to only sound. 

 

My son has been losing it as this was his method to non stop watch YouTube videos with our current paid membership. I've already reset the device and no luck.

Same here. I swiped away from the video, the audio kept playing, but now I cannot get the video to show. I think maybe it's because I accepted a YouTube premium trial, which allows YouTube audio to play in the background. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the cast, no luck.

Hey Jake, sorry i haven't had the chance to respond to this. 

Things haven't been fixed. I have to tell Google to load a video, and the option to select from a list on the hub of like recommended videos is no longer there. 

 

In other words, a kid may go up to the screen and start scrolling though YouTube and then make the selection. Now I'm forced to have it play something by voice before I can see videos 

This is definitely still a problem. If you reset the 1st gen hub you can cast YouTube to it from a phone, ask it to play, etc. But if you navigate away, or ask more than one question the audio continues to play but you cannot get the video back - either by casting or tapping on a media offering on the screen. Super frustrating.

When I ask for Youtube video options, it used to show a list of options but it no longer displays any options for me to select. I can say video option no. One and it’ll play; but it’s anyone’s guess asto what it it will be

I have this problem too.

I cant cast anything, cant play youtube on hub and see Camera on this.

Every thing about video file cant play on this.

Please check and fix it.

What is up with the non responsiveness of help staff? Obviously (in case he shows up again) these folks and myself (4 nest hubs no YouTube no settings available) are having what I'd consider to be a fatal error, since we mostly use it to play videos and a clock, in that order. There are non official forums elsewhere with thousands of users with the same problem. Statistically, I'd say that represents north of 90% of all users that use that functionality. 

Wondering if Google killed an internal product that powered "Jake" the fella who posted back in May.

I think I have finally accepted the Hubs have been Google'd if ya know what I mean. Gone to the Tech Farm to live with grandpa Google Talk and Great Uncle Wave. 

I sometimes joke that google products get worse, but it's no longer funny.

I have 3 Nest Hubs - 2 is 2nd gen and 1 is 1st gen. Only one of my 2nd gen will not play back YouTube or accept a cast fron my phone. I am thing about resetting it as the others works fine.

I am also having this issue. Since no one from Google is relying this, has anyone managed to find a fix?

This problem has just struck our Nest hub today. Google is acknowledging voice commands to cast youtube videos but the screen just goes black. Same result when casting from other devices or selecting youtube videos from the device itself.

I've reboot and reset the device and the issue persists. Seems to be an issue with Youtube speficially as I can cast BBC iPlayer content fine.

Would love to hear if/how this can be fixed.

Mine is doing the same. And going into the app i tried Downloading YouTube kids and that doesn’t work either but it’s like YouTube is gone.

Seems like there are at least half a dozen threads on here with folks having the same issue. Looks like its a widespread issue and we just need to wait for a fix.

Ours has just gone today as well.. I have a hubby who can't watch his reptile ir metal detecting videos and a grandson that cant watch youtube kids.

Glad I could show him not just us

I can't cast to my hub either. YouTube and Pandora won't work from my galaxy s22

Hi facrapo,

 

I'm sorry to hear you're not able to cast from your Samsung S22 phone to your Nest device using YouTube and Pandora. Let's take a look at it. A few questions: what Nest device do you have there? is it a Google Nest Hub 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, or a Google Nest Hub Max. Is it working via voice command if you ask it to play music? It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot by unplugging the power cord from your router followed by your Nest device. Restarting your phone might also help.

It is a nest hub second generation. I can play Pandora in YouTube directly on the hub. When I try to cast Pandora I get a splash screen that says Pandora but nothing else happens.

Thanks for the additional info. Could you please try if you will also experience the same thing with Netflix and other video/music service? That way, we can check further what's causing this to happen.
