Google Nest Wifi not playing right song

When I say use the WiFi node / speaker to plan music via Spotify, it's playing the incorrect artist or song. For example, I'll say, "Hey Google, play music by Tom Petty" and it will start playing music by Tom Petty. I asked it to play Yo Yo Ma and it plays Fleetwood Mac. I've tried resetting the WiFi point but that didn't work. Tried resetting the whole system and the router and that didn't work either.

Anyone else having issues or have a recommended fix?

Hello @tdiv182,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you are having an issue where your Google Nest WiFi point with a built-in speaker is playing the incorrect artist or song when you give a voice command for music through Spotify. Thanks for trying the troubleshooting, including resetting the specific WiFi point, as well as resetting the entire system and your router. I am here to help you figure out what is causing these incorrect selections.

Since you've reset the network hardware, this suggests the issue is likely with how the Google Assistant is interpreting your voice command or how your music services are linked.

Troubleshooting Voice and Service Settings

Here are the key areas we need to check in the Google Home app to correct the music playback:

  • Verify Spotify is the Default Music Service:
    • The system may be defaulting to a different music service (like YouTube Music), which might interpret commands differently or not have the requested track.
    • Open the Google Home app. Then tap your profile picture. the tap on Assistant settings, Music.
    • Ensure Spotify is selected as your default music provider.
  • Check Voice Match Recognition:
    • If the Assistant isn't accurately recognizing your voice, it might misunderstand complex names like "Yo-Yo Ma."
    • Open the Google Home app. Then tap your profile picture. the tap on Assistant settings, Hey Google & Voice Match.
    • Ensure Voice Match is set up and working correctly for you. You may want to try saying, "Hey Google, what is my name?" to confirm it recognizes you. If it misidentifies you, try retraining Voice Match.
  • Use a Specific Command:
    • When you ask for a complex or specific name, try adding the source to the command to ensure Assistant uses Spotify's search.
    • Example Command: "Hey Google, play Yo-Yo Ma on Spotify."
  • Confirm Language Setting:
    • If the device's language setting doesn't match your primary spoken language, it can lead to misinterpretation of commands.
    • In the Google Home app, select your device—Settings (gear icon)—then tap on Recognition & Personalization (or Google Assistant)—Assistant Language. Ensure the language is set correctly.

Please try confirming the settings above, especially checking if Spotify is the default, and then try the specific command "Hey Google, play Yo-Yo Ma on Spotify."

Let me know if this improves the song selection accuracy!

Regards,

Kevin
