Google Nest won't play Planet Rock

GillianB
Community Member

Hi, I like listening to Planet Rock (part of the Planet Radio group in the UK) on my Google Speakers

However starting today, if I say "Hey Google, play Planet Rock", I'm told "Your Planet Radio account needs to be linked first, you can do that in the Google Home app"

But I can't work out where to link my account within Google Home. In fact, their own website claims there is no direct integration on Google smart speakers (https://support.planetradio.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/360018429058)

Bizarrely, if I ask Google to play Planet Rock's sister stations (Kiss, Magic) that also stream through the Planet Radio player, they work flawlessly and don't tell me that I need to link accounts

A workaround previously was to "Play Planet Rock in TuneIn Radio", but they removed their station from TuneIn Radio a few months ago

Any suggestions?

I'm having same issue. I've asked my Google nest to play planet Rock in tune in and it streamed fine

Just checked on planet radio.. updated 3 days ago, its saying there is a issue with Google speakers regarding Planet Rock, Scarla and Kerrang stations... they are working on it. All other associated stations should still play. Recommended casting or through a player app such as Tune In ( free download).. you have to ask specifically "play planet rock via tune in" though

Ahhh, thanks for the reply - No I've not asked it to play it through 'Tune in' I'll give it a go and see what happens. Good to know it's not just me though.

Is Tune In still working? I didn't think it was available any more

Yes I downloaded it off Google Play Sunday.

Is it a subscription service?

No hun.. its a free app

I've downloaded it and it says it's a 7 day free trial then £6.99/month or a 30 day free trial then £63.99 annually

Now it's installed on your phone ask Google to play planetrock on your phone and it works no payment required

That's the Tune In pro.. just download the normal app.. or any other radio receiver app. There are a few on the play store x

I can't find the free version. I've tried downloading from Google Play and also directly from TuneIn, both want you to tick either the 7 day or 30 day free trial. Getting peeved ☹️ x

I think I might've cracked it. Will have to wait till I get home to test it on Google Nest. Will keep you posted!! x

Hi you don't need to choose either option unless you want advert free which you don't. Just install the app from app store then close it. When you reopen it will be advert centric but just ignore them and play planetrock.

I'm doing this now so definitely works.

Hey GillianB,

Are you able to listen to TuneIn on your Google Nest speaker?

@Jtmetalking: I appreciate your help here.

Hi... you have to ask Google nest specifically "Hey Google.. play Planet Rock through Tune In" or whatever radio app you have x
