Google home, google nest, google family link NOT WORKING!!

Torh
Community Member

I have 2 google nest mini, 1 google nest screen, 4 phones, 2 tablets, 4 users, 2 children in family link, 1 home, and a lot of smart devices.. But google home, google nest and users in family link are more or less IMPOSSIBLE to configure.. I want kids to be related to 1 phone, 1 tablet and 1 google nest mini, voice recognition. But when a kid asks google to play a song it starts to play on my phone. I cannot set up kids to connect to the respective speakers, APPS sending me between family link, home app and assistant app on various devices. Is it so hard??? To make ONE app to manage the devices and the access to those for specific users? It is so useless!!   And for the family link, 1 kid 1 phone and 1 tablet, setting screen time for 2 hours, the family link app tven gives them 2 hours on phone and 2 hours on tablet,  but if I give them 1 hour, they have 1 on each device. THATS WHAT'S happening when developers don't know what they are developing!!!

Hi Torh,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. That certainly hasn’t been easy for you. Let me help you out. You can check this helpful link on how to properly link your child's account on your Google Home app. For the Family link time restriction you can use this link.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Hi Juni,

I have seen the howto's and if the actual process worked as they describe there would be no problem. BUT,

When I'm following the process on my phone or tablet adding a kid to the household, and at the point where I'm supposed to add them to devices like Nest, Nest mini etc I only get one out of three devices. And the one I get is the small Nest screen in my livingroom, and not the Nest mini's in the childrens room,

I have tried to remove the devices, adding them again, no change,

So when trying to do it thru the childs device, going into the Google home app I get the same results as many others, The Device Is Not Connected to WiFi. It's absolutely connected to wifi, it has never been so connected to the WiFi, actually there has never been anything more connected to a WiFi than that phone.

And the whole process is a loop, working in circles when I have the time for it, and have the calmness I just start to try to figure it out again. Getting frustrated, angry, and just feeling the urge to voilently destroy some technical equipment just to blow off some steam.

And as for the second issues as stated:

Tip: Daily limits apply to each Android device or Chromebook your child uses. For example, if you set a daily limit of 2 hours, your child would get 2 hours of time on each device.

I have a bizarre idea that most parents would appreciate the option to set a total amout of screen time, like 2 hours, meaning that the limitation is account related not thing related. If the user spends 12 minutes on the tablet, they still have possibility for spending 1 hr 48 min on the phone, and if they log on to a PC and stay logged in for 8 minutes they would have 1 hr 40 minutes left to use on whatever device they log into. But as for now they would have the possibility to sweap between devices and get 6 hours total. Or I could restrict the screen time to 40 minutes on each device, forcing them to vary between devices.

I recommend that google test the solutions on a couple of families and get their feedback. I guess I know which one that would be the "best" solution 😉

I'll try to make a photo series/video of my screen while I try to add the devices to the account, maybe  someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong 😉

Opened a new post, But seems like only option is to add photos,  So if you have an alternate solution to share videos with you that would be appreciated. (I am willingly to believe that Google have an optional solution to collect videofiles for support/development. Fax is sooo 1980 😉  Or should I use instagram/FB/Snap ??
