Google nest hub 2nd gen not updating and starting rebooting randomly

Jameslof07

I got my Google nest hub 2nd gen less than a month ago and it's been working fine up until this week. When I set it up initially it didn't update and still hasn't received any firmware updates. I have another nest hub in my home and it hasn't been having the same problems. This week my nest hub has randomly started restarting with any commands or inputs and when it reboots it's always in the set alarm screen.

I've tried factory resetting the device, I've changed the network and even joined the preview program but nothing seems to make it update.

I'm not sure if the random restarting is because it's not receiving updates or if it's another issue.

My display is on a fast wifi network and is running

Cromecast firmware version: 1.56.299498

Software version: 47.8.13.433496385

Hey Jameslof07,

I wanted to jump in and see if I could be of any help getting your device to update. I did find some troubleshooting steps I would like to try, and see if that works out for you.

  1. Make sure their Google Home is powered via the provided power cable via a wall outlet.
  2. Make sure their Google Home is connected to the internet for at least 24 hours.
  3. Reboot their Google Home device.
  4. Check the firmware version again

Please let me know if that does help update your device, or if you are still having any trouble from here.

Best regards,

Jake

Hey Jameslof07,

Thanks for reaching out — we're sorry for the trouble this has caused you.

To better isolate your device, could you try setting up your affected Google Nest Hub using a mobile hotspot? If you'll get the same result, kindly fill out this form so that our team can check this further.

Best,

Alex

Hey Jameslof07,

How's it going with your Nest Hub? Have you had the chance to set it up using a mobile hotspot?

Thanks,

Alex

Hi thanks for the Advice. My nest hub hasn't restarted in a while but it still didn't receive any firmware updates. I had it on a mobile hotspot for a few hours but it didn't seem to change too much.
