Today I told the Google Nest in my art studio to "turn out lights".
Instead it told me it was "brightening" the lights, which are not on dimmers, and of course nothing happened in the studio until I repeated the instruction. At that point Google turned the lights off.
A bit later I went into my house next door to my studio, and found that Google had turned on all the lights there, which is a separate "home" in the Google Home app. So it turned on the lights in a different building with a separate hub and separate wifi! This is not the first time something odd like this has happened.
My configuration: we have two homes defined in the Google home app, one for each building. The newer Google Nest speaker is in my studio, there are two older Google home speakers in the house "home". Each building has its own wifi, and its own hub (one is SmartThings, the other a Hubitat). Most devices linked/connected to the appropriate Google "home" via the hubs, but a few outlets are directly connected to Google and also appear in the appropriate "Homes".
But it seems that Google is happy to control any and every device in ways mysterious to me!
Any thoughts?

Hi ptartist,
Thanks for reaching out.
I appreciate all the info you've shared and it looks like you have set up the lights correctly in a separate homes. Have you already tried saying "Ok Google, turn on <name of lights> in <room name>"? Let's go ahead and try that first to see if this will fix the issue.
Keep me posted.

Well I cannot reproduce the problem at will, so it is hard to test. All the room names are different in each home, and I was standing in my Studio home, in same room as the Google Nest and lights I was trying to manage.
So why would I need to specify a room name? Usually this works fine, just sometimes odd things happen instead...

Hi ptartist,
You're right, and I know that it's not the command that you usually use. How about try to mute the other Google Nest spekers and command the other one? Let's see if this makes any difference.

The most common confusion happens when I am in my studio, where I a have only one Google Nest device (the newest one). My studio is in a separate house about 25 feet from the house that is my residence, and on a separate wifi and a Smarthings hub. The house "home" consists of two older Google speakers connected to a Hubitat hub, with the separate router & wifi.
But both are behind the same Astound Broadband modem for Internet access.

Hi ptartist,
We're sorry for the late response. Could you list down all the Google Nest speakers set up on your home? Also, kindly list down where these speakers are connected so we can try to replicate what's happening in your home set up.
Keep me posted.
