Hub randomly lights up

As some others here have said, my display decided to light up super bright right at 2:00 A.M. this morning waking me up and did it again maybe an hour later. This is not acceptable and I'm beginning to be sorry that I ever tried Google Home..........should just stick with Alexa instead. It's not perfect either but it doesn't do stupid things like this and is a lot faster. Got 2 new 2nd Gen Nest Hub's for sale!!

Hey Iggyinpa,

Sorry to hear about your experience, but thanks for bringing this up. Let's get to the bottom of this - when did the issue start? How far is your Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) from you? Does it light up when you move?

Please check if ultrasound sensing is enabled. If yes, try turning it off then check if your device will have the same behavior.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Select the device card of the speaker or display.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings > Recognition and sharing > Ultrasound sensing.
  4. Swipe the slider to the right to turn on Ultrasound sensing or to the left to turn off.

Cheers,

Nah, these things are too problematic right out of the box. I'm going to try and find a way to repurpuse them or just sell and count my losses. There's another bright light issue I have but have some control of it although inconvenient.

Yep.  I have 4 Hubs and 4 Mini's and the Hub in our bedroom does this bright light thing every night and all throughout the night.  Not sure about the daytime as I work then and not around to baby sit it.  Last few nights, I try to play some music via Spotify and it will work for a few then lose it's mind, go to a bright white screen with a gray G in the middle, and then not reconnect for awhile.  I can make any other device stream Spotify at that point.  I finally just get tired of it and lay it face down and listen through my phone.  Kind of frustrating when you have two nest thermostats, 4 Hubs, 4 Minis, and a slew of smart devices and then you get this erratic display stuff.

Hey NetAdmin,

Appreciate the quick response. Please proceed with resetting your device by pressing and holding both volume buttons together, at the back of the Nest Hub, for about 10 seconds. You'll hear your Google Assistant confirm that it's resetting the Nest Hub.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Are you using sleep sensing? I've been having this issue with my hub since purchase and been back and forth with support over email to not resolution or firmware update to fix the issue I've clearly identified. If you see the screen like in my post below, it's the same issue as me and the only solution is to turn off sleep sensing. Otherwise you should turn off ultrasound sensing and that may improve things.
