I'm trying to move my Nest Hub Max from the living room to the kitchen and within the home app it seems that the only option it gives me when I go into device information and try to change the room, is to rename the device to something else. Why do I have to rename it? I just want to change the room it's located in. And if I try to just name it the same thing it won't let me. I only have one Hub Max so I don't need to or want to rename it. I just want it called Hub Max. But out of desperation I tried to pick a new name and when I hit save, nothing happens. The device information continues to show The Hub Max and its original location with original name. See screenshots.

We had the same problem with our Nest Hub Max when we first got it late in 2021, and had to resort to doing a factory reset just to move it to a new "room" in the Google Home app and to rename it. It's a dumb defect that's been around for awhile.
Here are a couple of other reports on the same issue:

No, I just took from your last post that this is a known issue so I'll just wait until Google fixes this problem that should've been fixed ages ago. Hopefully one day they will dedicate an engineer to fixing this. I'm not going to delete and reinstall my device and Home app just to move it. I'll just leave it named the wrong room rather than risk the host of new issues and problems I will probably run into if I try to delete it.

No, not gonna do that. Knowing how Google works, that will probably result in some kind of other problem that I'm going to have to deal with. If Google can't figure it out so that I can just move it to another room like I should be able to within the app, then I will just leave it where it is.
