Multiple home members adding items to a single (Google Keep) shared list

LewisC
Community Member

We have multiple smart devices and Google Assistant smart speakers (Sonos One, Nest Mini, Nest Hub).

Both me and my partner can control devices around the home but she can't add items to our shopping list. The shopping list is in Google Keep and the note is shared with both of our google accounts. Both our voices are Voice Matched and Google Keep has been selected as the note service.

When she tries to add an item to the list, Google responds "I couldn't verify your voice, so I can't change any lists. You can either try again, or verify your voice match settings in the Google Home app."

Hi LewisC,

Would you mind running a quick test for me? I want to see for sure if this is only happening with Google Keep or across all account-related apps. Could you use the voice command to play a song on YouTube and then check to see if it shows up in your account history or your partner's history? Then repeat the test with your partner playing the music. If the history is only showing on a single account, we can know that the problem is on the account level and not the app level. Let me know if you're able to test that out.

Thanks,

Jeff

Sorry, been super busy so hadn't had time to test this.

So to test it I had to remove my Kitchen Sonos speaker as the default (as I don't have my Sonos linked with YouTube Music).

  • With the Nest Hub now as default I asked 'Play music by Taylor Swift on YouTube' which it does and I can see in My Google Activity my Assistant command and YouTube watch history.
  • My girlfriend then asks the same command which it does and she can see only the YouTube watch history under her My Google Activity.

Also just to add, she cannot access our shared Keep note via the Nest Hub. She can access it on her phone.

The Keep note is shared with the family group (which she is in) and also directly with her via email address associated with her Google account.

Hey LewisC,

Apologize for the delays. Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. Let's go ahead and try removing and re-adding her from the list. Follow the steps below to know how:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. At the top-right, tap the account icon.
  3. Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon  and then choose another account or Add another account .
  4. Go back to the home screen, then tap Settings .
  5. Scroll down to Services, then tap Notes and lists and then Shopping lists. Note: If asked, have the customer choose an app to open their lists.
  6. At the top left, tap Menu and then choose a list.
  7. Tap Shared with  and then Tap Remove  beside the person’s name to remove them from the list.

To re-add her account, repeat the steps 1 to 5 then proceed with the steps below:

  1. To view your lists, at the top left, tap Menu.
  2. Tap the list you want to share > Share .
  3. Enter a name or email, or scroll through the contact lists. The person being added appears under Shared with.
  4. Tap Save.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for your reply. I am getting stuck after step 5.

The shared note is a Keep note called Shopping. I don't have any Google 'Shopping Lists'

She was already added as a collaborator in the Google Keep app. I've removed her and then re-added again. Still no luck

Hi LewisC,

Thanks for confirming and trying that step. So we can further isolate the issue, could you try using "Shopping List" as your service? Since your wife is already added to the Google Home app, you can both try to create a list and add items, then observe if it will allow her to do so. Check out the steps below on how to use a shopping list as your service:

  1. Open Google Home app.
  2. Select settings.
  3. Tap Notes and lists.
  4. Tap the radio button for Do not sync with other services.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Juni
