Multiple hubs with separate Google accounts in same Home/Room?

garypen

I have two Nest Hubs in the bedroom, being used as bedside clocks on our respective nightstands (replacing two Fire Show 5's). I want to be able to register each one to our respective Google accounts, so as to display our specific content. But, I want to be able to access them both from within the Google Home app on my Android devices, and link them as a speaker group.
I was able to do those things easily with the Fire Show devices and Alexa app. But, I'm not clear on how to accomplish this with the Nest Hubs and Home app.
TIA

I'm hoping to be able to do the same with my 4 Nest Hubs. Hopefully there is a solution.

I hope so too. But, there is a noticeable lack of replies here. So, I may just send an inquiry directly to Google Support, as this "community" isn't much help.
If I find a way to solve this, I will post the procedure in this thread.

Hey there garypen,

If I understand what you're asking, you're wanting to have all the Google accounts in 1 Home app, with all the speakers from each account, and link them as 1 speaker group, is that correct? It definitely would be cool if you could do that, let me take a look into this for you.

Up to six accounts can be added to Google Home, and if you want to add multiple accounts from the same device, open the Google Home app and tap the hamburger button in the top left corner to reveal the left menu.

Unfortunately, being able to create a speaker group across multiple Google accounts is not possible. You only can create a speaker group within 1 Google Account.

I'm happy to take this feedback and pass it forward to the appropriate team so that they can look into seeing if this is a possibility moving forward.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Hi Garrett,

Let me elaborate on my own situation and hopefully it something that is possible.

My Google Home app is setup with myself, my wife, and our children as part of it. When I recently setup 4 Nest Hubs (2nd gen) with the Google Home app, I assigned each one to a specific bedroom.

At no point during the setup did it ask me if I wanted to associate any of the Nest Hubs with a specific member of the home.

I'd like to be able to assign each one to a specific member so that if everyone decides to take advantage of features like Sleep Sensing, the data from each Nest Hub is associated with the proper person's Google Fit account.

Hope this helps clarify at least what I'm trying to accomplish.

Thanks

Let me clarify. (Although, I thought I was pretty clear to begin with.)
I want each device to be registered to a different individual account. One device = one account. So, each device will display only that account's calendar, email, etc.

Then, I want to register ALL the devices to one home, visible in my Google Home app.

That was something I was able to do with Amazon Echo Show devices and the Alexa app. But, I do not see an apparent way to do it with the Nest Hubs or Home app. I don't see a way to change the account on the Hub itself, or on a specific hub through the app.

So, do I need to setup the hubs individually through separate smartphones/apps, then join them to the same home later? Or, is there a way to change the account on a Hub without resetting and starting from scratch?

I hope that makes it a little clearer.

Hey there garypen and TonyC,

I did some more digging around for what you're both looking for and unfortunately this is not something that is a current active feature at this time. Currently, you can only view one Google account within the Home app at a time, which means that being able to do what you want accomplished, not possible.

I do think it would be a nice feature and am happy to take this feedback and pass it forward to our development team to see if they can add it sometime. We are always looking for feedback from our customers, so I appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you Garrett. Hopefully it will be a feature they do add. The Nest Hub is a great size for the bedroom, and the with the health oriented features the Gen 2 introduced it would be a shame if only one person in a family could utilize it to it's fullest extent. If the development team does move forward with adding this feature, I'll be the first to volunteer to be a beat tester.

Hey there TonyC,

Thanks for clarifying that, it makes more sense to me now what you're trying to accomplish.

Unfortunately with just 1 Google account you wouldn't be able to accomplish that. Each person would have to have their own Google Account with their device linked to their specific Account in order to have that customization and individuality.

Hope that makes sense.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Hi Garrett,

Thanks for the quick reply. It's not 1 Google account. We each have our own Google account that are all part of the same Google Home.

Hi Tony,

How were you able to set up each device to individual accounts, and then register them to a single Google Home? That is exactly what I am trying to do. But, I do not see a clear method for doing so.

Hi Gary

I haven't been able to. You and I are in the same boat on this one.  I'm waiting for Garrett's reply below to see if having each person setup their own Hub and then adding them to our home will do it.

As much as I am a Google fan, it's their habit of overlooking what I would consider very common use cases that drives me absolutely batty. Honestly, how hard would it be for them to add the ability within the Google Home app to associate a particular piece of hardware to a specific member of the Google Home.

Hey folks,

It looks like we have come to a solution so I'm going to be locking this thread. If you have any other concerns or questions, please feel free to create a new thread.

Have a great day.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the clarification. Since each Hub is associated or linked to individual accounts, then each member of the family should have their own data for things like Sleep Sensing and other features.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Garrett, that is what I'm attempting to accomplish. When you setup the Nest Hub using the Google Home app it does not ask you to associate it to a specific account.

Are you saying if I do a factory reset of the Nest Hubs and use each person's individual phone to set it up one Nest Hub each in our Google Home account, then it will be tied to that person? If that is the case, I'm more than happy to do that.
