Multiple nests will not play YTTV

For the first time this morning, my Google Nest hubs give me a Playback error every time I try to watch Youtube TV on them. I am able to watch on other devices (Roku, smart tv, computer). I happen to have a free trial of the 4K add-on which will end tomorrow. That should allow for unlimited streams at home so that is not the problem and I never ran into this before. I reported the error code once, the type is so **bleep** small it is hard to know if I accurately entered it...

Hi sneeziepacker,

This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: were there recent changes made? Was it working before? What is the exact error message? Is the issue happening on voice and manual casting? How many Nest Hubs do you have? Is it happening to all Nest Hubs??

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Dan

Hello. I was disappointed that it took 5 days to get a response. Honestly I'd have been out of my mind by then had the problem not resolved itself.

No recent changes were made and all of my Nest Hubs were working fine before. The issue happened on voice, I didn't think to try manual casting. I have 5 Nest Hubs total and the problem was on at least 3 of them.

I tried rebooting but that did not solve the problem.

The issue lasted for about 20-30 minutes and as I said earlier, it resolved itself.

The specific error was "Playback error. This video requires payment to watch. To help us resolve the issue, please open your mobile YouTube TV app, go to Settings > Send feedback and report this ID: (leaving that out in case it is personally identifiable)." I followed that instruction a couple of times in that timeframe - maybe someone behind the scenes corrected something? At the time, I had an active YouTube 4K add-on as well as a regular subscription so should have had no issues (never did before and have not since). I was just attempting to watch a regular channel in the basic package - CNN.

Thanks for the follow-up.

Hi there,

Thanks for the response. I’m glad your issue is resolved now. I’ll keep this thread open for one more day. If you need further help, let me know.

Cheers,

Juni

Interestingly, I had this happen again yesterday afternoon where my Hub was telling me that payment was required. I rebooted and it cleared. It will be annoying if for some reason this is going to continue to happen regularly. It happened on both Gen 1 of the smaller nests and a Hub Max (version 1 if there are any other versions now out).

Hi sneeziepacker,

I'm sorry to hear that this happened again but, could you confirm what you did to get it resolved? Is it happening via voice command or when casting from your phone to your Nest devices?

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Dan

I am always using via voice command (I'm old, I don't always have my phone with me lol). I rarely cast with my phone.

This time it resolved immediately after rebooting the device and issuing another voice command (a previous time, on a different nest hub, it did not solve the issue immediately).

Hey there sneeziepacker,

Awesome — glad to hear that your issue is fixed. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread in 24 hours unless I can help out with anything else.

Cheers,
