I have been successfully asking my Google Home Mini (gen 1) for the sunrise or sunset time for nearly a year. This morning it suddenly started saying, "Sorry, I don't understand." when I ask. However, the Google Assistant app on my iPhone has no problem answering when I speak this question to it. So far, I have found nothing else that the Mini fails to do. I did a factory reset on the Mini but it still fails to answer my request. The device's cast firmware version is 1.54.250118. To my knowledge there have been no changes to my network or WiFi setup. I live alone so nobody else has made any changes.

Hey there,

Sorry for the late response, but I wanted to drop in here to help.

I understand it can be frustrating when you ask the Google Assistant a question and it doesn't understand. I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Just wanted to double check to see if you were still needing help on this? If so, what troubleshooting steps have you tried?

Please let me know.

Best regards,

GarrettDS,

I gave up in August after trying everything I could think of. Rebooting both Mini's, resetting them to factory default, confirming that they had the latest firmware, etc. As I said in my original post they did everything else OK. Also, verbally asking the Google Assistant on my iPhone Xs got me the sunset/rise info with no problem. So I finally gave up during the last week of August and started asking Siri instead.

Then, on Sept. 1st, out of pure stubbornness I once again asked a Mini for sunrise time. Without delay it answered me immediately. I tried again later and it still worked. I just now (Sept. 9) asked again and got the correct answer. I have made NO RECENT CHANGES to the Minis, my iPhone or my WiFi. The only theory I have is that whatever source the Minis use for sunrise data has a monthly quota on how many requests can be made from a given IP address. Seems like the calendar change from August to September fixed it!!

Thanks for your reply non the less. And if you have any other ideas about what happened I'd love to hear them.
