My Google Nest Stopped spelling for me

DarkSoda
Community Member

My nest stopped spelling for me today. I am bad at spelling and I am always asking it to spell a word.

Every time I ask it to spell it says it does not understand. I have rebooted and reset the nest and get the same

results. I have now been using my phone to help with this problem but, I want my nest to do the same thing.

Please help.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for sharing details regarding this issue. I know how annoying and challenging it can be to not have such an important feature work when needed, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

The team would love your help to look into this further. Please send feedback on your devices right after you experience the issue. You can say, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by the keywords: GHT3 Unable to spell words using <type of speaker>. Make sure to turn on the crash reports on your devices before sending feedback. Follow the steps below or visit this link for more information.

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right corner of the screen, tap Settings > Recognition & sharing.
  5. Turn on Send [device model] device usage and crash reports to Google. (Example: Send Google Home device usage and crash reports to Google.)

Let us know once done.

I am having the same issue, hopefully they fix this soon because I use Google all the time to spell words

I am also having this problem. I did a factory reset and restarted my router and still doesn't know how to spell words. Ugh!

I have 6 google speakers and minis in my house and they all stopped spelling recently. "Hey google how do you spell pillow" "I'm sorry I don't understand" "Hey google how do you spell chair" "I'm sorry I don't understand" and so on. I have done the same reset everything so it is definitely a them issue unless 6 devices broke at the same time.

Hey guys, Thanks for posting this. I hope the more post we get on this subject the better.

I went to my sister's the other day and asked her Google to spell and it did just fine, so it is not happening to everyone. Let me know if anyone comes across a solution.

For a smart device it is not very smart.  Same thing here, doesn't understand how to spell...

Stopped working on 6 different devices at the same time so guessing it is not a device issue

I found that it works if you ask it this way: Ok Google, Why don't you spell......

Good luck!

Wow! That is awesome!! Thank you for sharing

It will work sometimes asking it to spell this way but only 40% of the time.

And thanks for sharing.

My spelling has stopped also! It is so frustrating!!! I'm complaining on every Google platform.

Google Home system no longer spells (3 speakers).  Hey Google, how do you spell "Cat"? Google response...."I'm sorry, I don't understand".  Also did complete reboot of router and wifi.  The three Google Home speakers were unplugged, allowed to sit for 5 mins then plugged back in.  Same result.

I’m having the same problem

I did what the specialist told me to do and I'm still having the same problem. The response I get from my Nest is sorry I don't understand ?

Two speakers and my phone assistant stopped spelling. I sent feedback.

Same problem. Has anyone figured it out?

Just discovered this issue is affecting 3 phones, 4 minis, and 1 hub in my house. Seems to be a pretty common issue at this point reading through these comments. I homeschool my children and this feature gets used quite often, so hopefully it's fixed soon.

I am starting to thank that this is an account problem because it is affecting phones also.

6 speakers here, same problem

My two Google nests also stopped spelling words. Anyone have answers yet? Seems very strange.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for updating the thread. It's great to hear that your speakers are now able to spell! I'll leave the thread open for a few more days so we can keep an eye on how other users are doing. If you're still having the same issue, try rebooting your speaker to refresh the settings. I'll check in on this thread again as soon as I hear back from the team that this has been resolved.

Cheers,

Muddi
