Nest Hub (1st gen) won't open websites

Hi.
This is my issue: I'm trying to get my nest hub (I believe it to be a 1st gen) to open a website by saying "Hey Google, open <url>". When I try a short url to i.e. a newspaper (vg.no) my devise responds: "opening website" .. but the screen only turns white for a second, and the home screen re-appears. If I try opening 'google.com', it responds with "sorry, I can't open websites on this device".

I've tried to reboot it and to do a factory reset.

I have an account connected to my 'home' that is a child's account, so I have added a filter where I allow websites for this device. I have also tried to turn filters off.

I have another 'home' where I have the only account connected, and I've tried to 'move' the device to this home, but with no luck. The same things happen.

I have managed to get the browser up by searching for random photos on the device and accessing the website where these photos are, but then I cannot type in a url to navigate any further.

I looks like the device is updated with the latest updates. And I'm located in Norway.

Does anybody have a good idea on how to solve this?

Hi timwebster,

Thanks for reaching out and for providing detailed information on your issue and the steps that you've done — these are of great help!

Does the issue happen only when you try to search for websites? How about casting some videos or playing music? Do you have other Nest displays? If so, are they experiencing the same issue?

Could you provide the firmware version and Fuchsian version installed on your Nest Hub? Check the steps below on how to get it. Also, if you have another regular Google account try to set it up using that one then observe if it will make a difference.

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings and then About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    1. For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs Fuchsia.

Looking forward to your response.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Juni

Hello.

Thanks for getting back to me and sorry for my late reply. 🙂

Yes, casting music from the hub and casting video to it works as expected.

This is the information I got:

Fuchsia-version: 9.20221010.3.176

Software version: 50.26.12.493473605
