Adding another voice to the choir of people reporting the same issue with the mostly black screen! Do not purchase a Nest Hub as there seems to be a firmware issue and they will eventually fail, and do not factory reset as you will not be able to reconnect to your device since you'll be unable to see the QR code or setup code (as at least it might work as a speaker until it fully dies).
