Nest Hub Time Zone Issue

TAM3
Community Member

My (brand new) Google Nest Hub does not display the correct Time as per the Time Zone on the Home Display page.  If it is 9:00 am at my home (in India), the displayed time is 9:30 am (in Bangladesh). I live very close to the India-Bangladesh border.

Here is a picture showing correct time on my Desktop Monitor (in green circle) and the incorrect time on Nest Hub (in red circle). The difference is always 30 mins (which is the India-Bangladesh time difference):

WhatsApp Image 2022-08-10 at 8.42.42 PM.jpeg

That said, if I ask out loud to the assistant ''Ok Google, What is the Time?'' It replies with the accurate time. It also shows the accurate weather as per the correct location.

I have browsed the forums, tried all the offered solutions, the problem persists.  Many people have the same problem. It seems the issue is in Google's database of Time Zones & Locations. The Google database incorrectly identifies my location with the 'Bangladesh Time Zone' instead of the 'India Time zone'.

[Edit: I have now realized, this issue exists on all of my Google Nest Mini devices (6 of them). When setting an alarm using the Mini, there is a 30 mins difference.]

How do we correct this?

@TAM3

Google Nest customers in other countries have the same problem:

It seems Google Nest should provide a way for customers to request a correction to its master timezone database.

Hey there,

MplsCustomer thanks for the help!

TAM3 make sure your home address is updated on your Google Home app. Also, check if it has the same address on your phone.

Best,

Alex

@Azarco

The problem is that even when customers have the correct address entered in the Google Home app, Google itself has assigned an incorrect Time Zone to that address in its database, and Google has, so far, not provided any way for a customer to request a correction to Google's database.

Hello @Azarco

Yes the address on the Google Home App and Phone are accurate and the same. This does not resolve the issue with Nest Hub. Allow me to repeat, when asked via ''Ok Google'', the device responds with the accurate time and address, but the displayed time on the home screen is 30 mins ahead!

I have browsed through this issue on this forum as well externally on Reddit. Many people have this issue, so I am not a one off case, and its quite clear, (as @MplsCustomer  has also mentioned), the mismatch issue lies in Google Database of Time-zones and Locations.

Hi TAM3,

We understand and we appreciate your patience. I also suggest that you send feedback using your devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," or by following the steps on this link. Also, could you provide us the cast firmware and the software version of your Nest Hub?

Thanks,

Alex

@Azarco

My guess is that--as other customers have reported--Google's database has the incorrect time zone for this customer's address, and it seems that Google is refusing to correct its database or even to acknowledge that its database is incorrect.

This isn't "feedback". It's erroneous data in Google's address/time zone database.  Google should correct it.

Hey MplsCustomer,

We know how important this is for our users. Feedback from the customer and getting their device information will help us investigate the cause of the issue. Once we have the customer's information, we will check this with our team.

Best,

Alex

@Azarco

Gee whiz. The cause--as indicated by many posts in this forum--is that Google's database has an incorrect time zone assigned for some addresses. And Google will neither acknowledge this or fix it.

Hello @Azarco ,

Here is the requested information:

Cast Firmware: 1.56.309385 and Software Version: 47.9.4.447810048

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is another interesting bit of information that may help you. Today I asked ''Hey Google, Show me device information''.  The response was ''Opening webpage'' . Thereafter the website deviceinfo.me opened up.

In the Webpage, I see 'System Time Zone' as Asia/Dhaka but Local Time Zone as Asia/Kolkata.

(Kolkata is in India, my location, but Dhaka is in Bangladesh. This explains the 30 mins difference).

See these images:

Here you can see different time zones.

Thanks
