Nest Hub keeps restarting when inactive but not while playing

I have a Google Nest that a couple months ago started to restart on its own almost every 5 minutes. I checked the power outlet, checked the voltage in the power adapter, tried it on different outlets, everything appears to be fine, but the problem persists. I tried a few times to do a factory restore and firmware upgrades, but no solution yet.
One curious thing is, when I play something, the device does not restart. It can play for hours without interruption. But as soon as the media stops playing the issue reappears. It almost feels like it restarts when it detects movement, I already disabled/enabling the function for ultrasound sensing, but the issue persists.

The device is 3 years old.

The System firmware version is: 26.20250116.103.2201
No updates appear available.
Cast Firmware: 3.76.463359
I enabled the option to send error logs to google.

Hi @crazyduck!

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear your Google Nest Hub device keeps restarting every few minutes, particularly when it's idle and not playing media. I appreciate your efforts in taking those steps before. I'm happy to help you!

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • Which Google Nest Hub model do you have?
  • Are other devices able to receive power from the same outlets?
  • Is the official power adapter that came with Google Nest Hub used on the device?
  • Was there any type of electrical outage around the time the issue began?
  • Do you have a second Google Nest Hub whose power adapter you could try using with the Google Nest Hub that keeps rebooting? If so, please try swapping the power cables.

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi

Here are my answers:

I have Nest Hub Gen 1

No other devices share the current outlet.

I use only the power adapter that came with the nest hub.

I'm not sure if there was some electrical outage that could have caused this, but that's a possibility. I thought that the fact that the device does not restart while playing would discard the idea that the power adapter was the issue.

Unfortunately I don't have any other device that uses the same power adapter, I was thinking on replacing the adapter with a new one, but I was not sure that would solve the issue.

Hi @crazyduck!

Thank you for your response. Let's work together for a solution.

Let’s perform some troubleshooting steps:

  1. Plug the Google Nest Hub (1st gen) into a different wall outlet.
Note: Make sure it is not connected to a surge protector to rule out all other hardware.
  2. Discharge the Google Nest Hub (1st gen):
    • Unplug the power adapter from the outlet and the display.
    • Leave it unplugged for 20 seconds.
    • Plug the power adapter into the display.
    • Plug the other end of the power adapter into a wall outlet that works.
    • Check if any LED lights would appear on the display.
  3. Let's check the behavior of your Google Nest Hub (1st gen).

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi

I was able to borrow a power adapter from a friend, the device did not restart while using that adapter, even when idle. I'm going to search for a replacement for the power adapter. Thank you for the ideas and suggested solution steps.
