Nest mini 2nd generation issue

Flyingyankee

I have a Google Nest mini 2nd generation. After setting up and working properly for a day or two, it stops working properly. The speaker will say, “Sorry, something is not right. Wait a few minutes and try again. You can also try unplugging your device and plugging it back in”.
I complete the recommended procedure and have to set up again using the home app.
The Nest mini 2nd generation will work properly again for 1-3 days before I get the message again, “Sorry, something is not right…” A cycle I want to end.

Note: my 1st generation nest speakers work fine and don’t have this issue. My wifi signal is strong, fast  & reliable .

Any ideas for a permanent fix ?

Thanks

Hi @Flyingyankee,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand your Google Nest Mini (2nd generation) is repeatedly disconnecting and requiring a re-setup. It's certainly important for your devices to work reliably, especially since your 1st generation Nest speakers are functioning perfectly and you've confirmed your Wi-Fi signal is strong and reliable. I'm here to help you get this resolved.

You've already tried unplugging and plugging your device back in, which is a great first step.

Based on the information you've provided, and to help ensure a consistent connection, let's try a few additional steps:

  1. Restart your network equipment: A fresh start for your internet modem and Wi-Fi router can often clear up connectivity issues. Please unplug both your modem and router from their power outlets, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug them back in. Allow them to fully boot up and re-establish your internet connection before checking your Nest Mini.

  2. Check for interference: While your Wi-Fi signal is strong, other devices in your home might occasionally interfere with the Nest Mini's wireless connection. Are there any other electronics close to your Google Nest Mini that use the 2.4 GHz band, such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, wireless speakers, or baby monitors? If so, try temporarily moving your Nest Mini to a different room to see if the issue improves.

  3. Optimize device placement: Even with a strong Wi-Fi signal, a closer proximity to your Wi-Fi router can sometimes help with maintaining a more stable and consistent connection. If it's convenient, try placing your Nest Mini a bit closer to your router for a day or two to observe if the behavior changes.

To help me understand the situation even better and provide more targeted assistance, could you also tell me:

  1. When you reconnect the Nest Mini to the Google Home app, do you perform a factory reset or remove it from the app first, or does it just seem to reconnect?

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Kevin
