Nest mini fails to authenticate during setup. Factory reset does not work.

I've got multiple other nest mini devices that work fine on firmware 279716. The affected device has a newer firmware, I think there is a bug in latest firmware.

Affected firmware version:
System firmware version: 299498 Cast firmware: 1.56.299498 Language: en-AU MAC address: D4:F5:47:3E:80:47 IP address: 191.168.1.170

This broken device received a new firmware update. It appears not to fix the issue however.

I think Google is working on a fix.

Hey BeauW,

Sorry to hear about your Google Nest Mini, but thanks for bringing this up.

To confirm, is this a first time setup? What is the specific make and model of your phone/tablet used to set it up? Have you tried using a different phone/tablet? Which part of authentication does it fail (connecting to device or network)? Also, what other steps have you done aside from doing a reset?

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi there, the device has worked in the past.

It was a reset that made it not work, the reason for resetting it is that I could no longer could configure it's settings.

I have 3 other nest minis that have been set up just fine since this device stopped working. I spent 4hrs with Google support to confirm it's nothing on my end. I am a software engineer so know how to see the device on my network and it's got no issue getting IP/internet.

Where the device fails during setup is in the very last and final step, where it says "Configuring ..."

In this stage it will attempt to update the settings of the device. Which fails.

The device has wifi, responds to questions and it's hardware is fully operational.

The issue is that the firmware has a bug which prevents the device from working. The only device I have which does not work is running latest firmware, all the rest have an older version.

It doesn't matter which Google account, phone/tablet used to set up, internet provider, router, etc the problem still persists no matter what and the only outlier is the firmware version of the broken device being more recent
