Hello,
Pretty regularly, I'm guessing everytime there's an update on the Nest speakers, it starts playing the wrong Spotify playlists.
I have used the same automations for months (maybe even over a year), I haven't changed the playlist name, two days ago it worked and played the correct playlist, but since yesterday it started playing a different one.
I have unplugged and replugged the nests, unlinked and relinked the Spotify accounts to my Google home account, and i even restarted my internet router... I also unlogged and relogged into Spotify twice on all my devices which forced my account to resync across all my devices as suggested on their help desk.
I have tried using the Spotify playlist ID in the automation and I also tried the full URL but Google doesn't recognize that, instead I can only write the name of the playlist but every single time there's an update, for some weird reason it decides it doesn't recognize it and plays something with only one of the words of the name.
Can you please provide me with a solution to this ? I get tired of waking up to angry Spanish rap music or hearing a random German audio book for kids...

Hi Daniel,
I have 2 google nest mini 2nd generation. I don't know if you need this but
- system firmware is 437716 and cast firmware is 3.74.437716 for the first speaker,
- and system firmware 429109 and cast firmware 3.73.429109 for the second one.
I have linked my spotify premium "duo" account, I run both from my ipad, and I'm located in France but everything is set english-US language. I'm also part of the preview program.
Please let me know if you need any more information
Thanks for your help 🙂

That is just not true at all!
I've just tried all the options discussed on here and it still doesn't recognise a Spotify playlist. I created a whole new automation, I rebooted my nest speaker, I tried loads of different names for the playlist.
It just picks a random word from the playlist name and selects an artist that is close to it. Even prefixing "play my Spotify playlist" before the playlist name doesn't work. As others have said on other threads even having playlist names of random characters doesn't work.
This worked a week ago, how about you just look at your old code and use that?!?

Hi Jimh23,
Thanks for your comments. It is important to continue working on these concerns. To verify that everything is working correctly with your account, please follow these steps:
Confirm the default music provider is set up correctly in the Google Home app:
Spotify: You need to have a premium account to get the most out of your speaker or display. A subscription is required for most functionality.
I hope this helps!
Regards,
Manuel

I'll indulge the obvious attempt to pretend this is a user error when it is nothing of the sort.
Yes my default music provider is setup correctly and I have a premium Spotify account. Once again it's been this way for over 5 years.
This is clearly a fault on Google's end. There has obviously been a change recently, the tone that plays when actions are completed is different. I have changed nothing at all.

I'm having the same issue. This is not a device problem but clearly something has changed in the automations code or the Spotify API. For years now it would play my very specifically named playlist but now it just tries picks a word from the playlist title and finds an artist who's name matches.
I really don't see why there can't be an interface in automations that allows direct selection of a Spotify playlist, it's not like it's an unlikely use case.

I'm also having the same issue. I've been using my two Google displays and nest mini for years and had no problem with Spotify. Now anytime I ask it to play one of my playlists it picks some random public playlists with a similar name. I've disconnected and restarted all of my devices. I've disconnected my Spotify account and relinked it. Nothing has fixed it. I'm asking "Hey Google, shuffle my xyz playlist".

I’m also experiencing this same exact issue. We’ve been using the same playlist on Spotify for years and suddenly our google mini no longer understands to play the playlist and chooses play a song based off of the first word instead

I'm having the exact same problem. My Google Nest speaker went from being able to play specific playlists from my library on Spotify to playing random playlists with words that sound similar. It's as if I'm no longer speaking English or have lost the ability to pronounce basic words! 🙈 Now, in order to play a specific playlist, I have to connect to the speaker via Bluetooth and play it from my phone.

I'm having the same problem. Does anyone know how to solve it? I've been trying lots of commands to play the playlist that I want but it doesn't work. I think that Google should redesign the way we choose the playlist that we want to play. It's impossible to believe that some apps like "Sleep as Android" have better ways to select a playlist or song being a smaller company than Google.
