Netgear Nighthawk connectivity issues with Nest Audio Speaker

Marcus1

I have a Nest Audio speaker that originally connected to an ASUS wifi router with zero issues.  I "upgraded" my wifi router to a Netgear Nighthawk CAX30S modem/router and now my Nest Audio device will disconnect after random periods of time to my router with the router message being that the WLAN access is rejected with incorrect security for my Nest Audio.  This issue occurs after hours, or sometimes days, but is becoming frustrating as this is the ONLY device that I have connectivity issues with.  ALL firmware is updated on router and Nest Audio, multiple encryption methods have been used with same results of disconnection, and I've even attempted setting up a static IP with the same results.  Any suggestions on what may be the issue.  Not having visibility into any logs or inter workings of the Nest Audio device is frustrating.  I'm suspecting it has to do with how the device manages it's encryption, but open to other ideas and more importantly, SOLUTIONS.

Try the following:

  • Disable Access Control.
  • Enable the option "Allow guests to see each other and access my local network" in the "Guest Network Setup."

Access control has been disabled and always was. What isn't clear for my model is all of the configuration that should be done around the guess network. Yes, I've selected the option you have suggested, but the guest network isn't enabled. Also, if the guest network should be enabled with that option selected, should i be connecting to that network as well? There's a lot more missing with that suggestion.

I recall those specific settings from previous posts with this router but don't own one personally so hard to advise more really.

Thanks for the response Jake. Still having issues.... I've isolated it to the way the nighthawk router handles it's meshed network and or relating to 5Ghz connection. The only way I can reliably stay connected is to have the speaker connecting ONLY to 2.4 GHz network. Any insight as to why that may be a limitation?

Hey Marcus1,

I would be more than happy to be of help. Some smart home devices only use the 2.4 GHz band and will not be available for setup if your phone is on the 5 GHz band. I did find an article with a little more details on that. Please let me know if that helps, or if you have any questions from here.

Best regards,

Jake

It doesn't help. The Google nest audio does not say anywhere what networks it can connect to, so just assuming that it qualifies as "some smart home devices" does not answer the question or solve the problem.
