New to Google products

I just got a Google Nest Mini for Christmas and it’s the first Google product that I’ve ever had. I’m finding it very hard to set up. Do I need a Google router for it to work? I’m so confused.

You do NOT need a Google router; we do not. You need the Google Home app on your phone or mobile device and you need a Google (gmail) Account.

@Ewoods3, I agree to what @MplsCustomer said. In setting up Google Nest Mini, you won't need to have a Google router. As long as you have a stable Wi-Fi connection and network settings are correct, you can easily set up your Google Nest Mini. Feel free to follow the steps on the link provided to successfully set up your device.

If you are stuck at last part where it says, Updating firmware & do nothing,

Then the fix is using mobile hotshot. I also faced difficulty setup home for few days using wifi, taking to supports, reading forums etc.

 

It could be the MTU size of the router which causes problem with update part only for Initial setup. Google should look details on that part, it any bugs there.

Once setup done from mobile 4G data, you can back to WIFI & use it normally.
