Original Google Home responds but doesn't play

Original Google Home: If I ask it to play either something from Spotify or a radio station, it complies but then nothing plays. I can cast to it from my phone or computer and it'll play. Have even rebooted it from the Google Home app.

• Did you already check that your music services are linked? Here is how you can check that:

1. Open the Google Home app.

2. Tap on the settings cog icon.

3. Find the "Music" setting and tap it.

4. Choose your default music service and unlink it.

5. Then relink your music service by following the on-screen prompts.

• How did you process the factory reset?

These things used to work...and now not. Everything is connected. I have also tried with a Google Nest Mini (first edition) which I also factory reset just to make sure.
